To drug my 12 yo?!

He is absolutely manic with excitement - despite this year knowing for sure that Santa isn't real. He hasn't stopped making noise since about 9 o'clock this morning, has been jumping around like a loon, has spent the last 10 minutes singing a song to the tap on the bathroom sink (yup!) and has gone upstairs with his empty stocking on his arm, pretending to be a snake! Xmas Confused Xmas Grin

Is it really so bad to give children sedatives? Some valium, for instance...

Although tbh, if I actually had any valium, I would probably be taking it myself tonight! Xmas Grin

Awww isn't that lovely that he's not too big to show his excitement?!

Xmas Smile
flow4 · 24/12/2012 23:06

... And he has just 'phoned me from his bed Hmm to say "If I really, really, really can't sleep, can I open my stocking after, say, 5am"! Xmas Grin
(And where's the emoticon for 'totally knackered' MNHQ, hmm?!)

Yes, it's lovely apostrophe :) But my goodness, it's exhausting!

Mine is creaking about outside the livingroom door, he must think I am deaf/daft both!

WankinginaWinterWonderland · 24/12/2012 23:13

I cannot drug mine sadly, he had an anesthetic this year, freaked me out big time, it was like seeing a child on Valium!

Nuttyprofessor · 24/12/2012 23:23

I am a bit jealous, mine doesn't do exited. He went to bed and straight to sleep.

I like having a chilled DS but just once I would like to see him get exited.

browniebearscuddlychristmas · 24/12/2012 23:27

My mum used to give me and my brother those travel sickness pills that make you drowsy on Xmas eve, phenangan or something like that.

browniebearscuddlychristmas · 24/12/2012 23:28

Not that I'm suggesting you do it though mind! Mine went to bed ok thank goodness

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 23:29

Brownie you can't buy that over the counter any more.

Bastards

flow4 · 24/12/2012 23:31

Xmas Shock brownie! How fiendishly clever and inspired utterly shocking! Xmas Shock Xmas Wink

Next year though - antihistamines work I believe, well they work on me!

Mine in is the loo again....

flow4 · 24/12/2012 23:32

Sock Sad Is there nothing legal we can drug our children with these days?! Surely that's an infringement of our civil liberties or summat?!

OP posts:
WankinginaWinterWonderland · 24/12/2012 23:36

Oh I remember that medicine what was it now.......

Mediced! That was good stuff, then they banned it I think or my Dc started sleeping...

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 23:36

Xmas Grin let's protest.

Or just invite my aunt Mavis round she could suck the fun out of anyone

flow4 · 24/12/2012 23:45

Ahhhh yes, Medised. I remember thinking how immoral it was to drug your kids when my DCs were small, Wank. Deluded self-righteous fool that I was! Xmas Grin

Thanks for the offer of your Dementor auntie sock, but that won't do it: I don't want rid of the fun, just of the bounce and noise... Surely by 12 he should be able to be excited in a calm and dignified manner?!

WankinginaWinterWonderland · 24/12/2012 23:49

I was the same... I was also scared they would become immune to it tbh! Once a month maximum. Then the Chemist asked many confusing questions so I couldn't get it...I never had the correct answers!

My 8 year old knows Santa has been, he just came down stairs...I sent him back up,maybe I should have let him open one.

cocoachannel · 24/12/2012 23:49

Brownie, we were given them too!

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 23:51

Sheepishly looks around and covertly whispers

I've got a few bottles of medised in my kitchen cupboard.

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 23:53

In all fairness I've never used them on the kids only on the aunt

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 23:55

Don't talk rubbish Santa has not got to the uk yet. I'm stalking him online

flow4 · 24/12/2012 23:55

whispers < Pass one here, sock.
Please please pretty please?! Xmas Grin

RyleDup · 24/12/2012 23:58

Ahh bless him, he sounds like a kid with a good sense of humor.

WankinginaWinterWonderland · 24/12/2012 23:58

SSShhh Sock Someone has been here, re-arranging presents to make piles look equal!! Xmas Grin

Loves his eyes lighting up!! Yay!

IneedAsockamnesty · 25/12/2012 00:02

Flow your welcome to it, some how I doubt aunt Mavis will be back requiring it again

Is he even pretending to go to bed yet?

flow4 · 25/12/2012 00:04

I bloody hope Santa gets here soon cos I'm knackered and I want to go to bed!
DS1 is 17, so there is no chance of Santa visiting before he goes to sleep. Xmas Grin
I have negotiated stockings outside bedroom doors this year, instead of at foots (feet?) of beds, so some sneaking might be possible before they're snoring!
