to not understand why they split?

I keep seeing threads about unexpected PG, or worries about the possibility of one, due to a split condom. In my considerable experience I've never known one to split, but I've usually taken the lead in making sure that they are fitted carefully. They are made and tested to be secure, and feel like they are very strong, so how are they used/misused to make them split?

That's not what it means mammatj, it means 1% of people that use them have failure, not that one in every 100 will fail - that would be much more frequency, if one CONDOM in 100 failed then it would have a 100% failure rate for people who use them regularly right?

I've had one split, I've used condoms for years. The partner that had the split was huge! not sure if that's why?

I hate to say it but had loads split, sometimes just the ring left at the bottom? Tried different brands etc no lube involved either.

maybe it was lack of lube?

We found that a particular position (nothing particularly dodgy) would split reasonably regularly. (About 1 in 3 I'd say.) No splitting in other positions.

It never really bothered us as I was on the pill anyway but we got together as students so always "doubled up" on contraception. 5 years married before we stopped bothering!

I've had condoms split twice, both times put on properly and no lube or oil etc. Both times it was with an ex who had an enormous penis so I always thought that was why. Luckily it was obvious straightaway so I knew to go and get the MAP.

I've never had one split but a friend said she had one just sort of burst at the top (only discovered afterwards)! She and her DH were quite shocked as it was one of those Durex Extra Safe ones. Went with her to Boots to get the MAP....

it is pretty obvious when they split though, I don't believe they have unnoticible leaks so there's always the option of MAP, when it splits it completely goes like a popped baloon and ends up down around the base of the penis

I had one where the whole top of it came off and got stuck inside me. Have no idea how it happened. I think that and splitting has happened about 5 times. As mamma says, they'll fail one time in every hundred.

Am gutted this isn't a Katie/Peter Charlotte/gav type thread.
Am going to contact trading standards. V poor description...
