to not understand why they split?

I keep seeing threads about unexpected PG, or worries about the possibility of one, due to a split condom. In my considerable experience I've never known one to split, but I've usually taken the lead in making sure that they are fitted carefully. They are made and tested to be secure, and feel like they are very strong, so how are they used/misused to make them split?

I've used condoms on and off for 13 years and have never had one split. I have had one slip off during though on two occasions. Both times were when I was at uni and I had to take the morning after pill. Luckily I didn't get pregnant either time - since ttc i have found that I conceive very easily! Very scary and worrying time.

I had one split, no idea how it happened. It was when I was 19 with another 19 year old guy. We both liked each other a lot but it wasn't serious.

He went to throw condom away and realised it was leaking. He punched the wall he was hat angry. He then drove me the next morning to take the morning after pill.

We never really had much to do with each other after that surprisingly.

I've had a couple split as well, also put on properly, no massage oils, finger nails, etc. No idea why either

An exP and I once got a faulty batch. The first one we used split, so I got the MAP. ExP blew some up and every other one burst

Me and DH have had a condom come off. We got away with it though!

Not getting the air out of the end properly I think.

I had one split once, in years of condom use.

Annoyingly I was in Slovenia (condom was from UK though) and I had to wait an excruciating 24 hours to get back to UK on planned flight and then get the morning after pill.

I've had a few split on me, you find a piece of plastic comes out the next day. Also had a few fall off inside to.

We tryied normal ones but couldnt even get them on him and large ones where tight spilt lol.

I've had one split in the early months of my relationship with DW. I am not so well endowed that I could burst it so I can only assume it was faulty or we somehow damaged it while putting it on.

Ours would split every time! Really irritating!

You need the right size condoms. One size does not fit all, and larger may split a condom while smaller may end up with the condom coming off during sex. You need to put them on carefully and only use lube suitable for use with condoms. Only buy kite marked condoms and don't use out of date ones.

Yep. they definitely can split and the MOP pill the next day can also fail too. Thats how I got my wonderful but somewhat unexpected daughter. (was BF 5 month old son at the time too).

my DM always used to say to me - you come from fertile stock, ALWAYS use protection. Her reason? She has had 3 condoms split in her life - and has 3 kids!

I've had one split - no idea how, was just clearly leaking afterwards.
And I've had one get wrinkled up during... think that was due to too much alcohol resulting in a... erm... softer than usual state.

I thought that 'when used correctly' they had a 98% or 99% efficacy rate.. or something like that.. definitely not 100% though.

Ironically it was an extra safe one All the extra thin ones we have used have been fine!

Everything that's manufactured in massive quantities will produce a small % of flawed goods. Just like sometimes you get a chocolate biscuit bar without any biscuit (MMMMMmmmm), sometimes there will be a tiny invisible flaw in the condom. Probably an area where the latex is thinner than it should be.

What a judgmental Op. Condoms are not infallible! Just this last week we had to come off during sex. Both seemed fine when put on. We threw out the rest of the packet in case the elasticity was gone. Previously we have had two break in 13 years. Both times just a ring of rubber left on the pens. No reason why... When you think how many condoms you.get through in a lifetime it is not a bad rate of trouble and morning after pill is there for those situations. We had a condom burst the a morning after pill fail - but I think that is very rare. I was told pill contraceptives and morning after pill are less effective on me after a pill baby, mirena baby and that failed morning after pill. So condoms are. Vital for us.

YABU. Don't chat bob. You truly believe that a piece of rubber is almost invincible and that, apart from the user being too dumb to use it correctly, none of the myriad random factors at work can cause it to split?

I had one come off inside me once. We definitely put it on properly as per the instuctions.

They are 99% reliable, so if you use them 100 times, you will have one that splits. That is what the doctor told me when I went for the morning after pill after one split.

Keep clicking on this thinking it's some celeb couple break up with Daily Mail link etc. quite upsetting to see its about condoms.
