I know a vegetarian who eats fish but not meat, she wont sit on a leather sofa but wears leather shoes, thinks meat is cruel and disgusting, but eats sweets with bovine gelatine in them...I've never been able to get my head around it. I'm not veggie myself but I think if you're going to be all moralistic and preachy about it (which she is) you can't just pick and choose rules as it suits you!

BTW, the Vegetarian Society defines a vegetarian as somebody who doesn't meat, fish or any other other products derived from the bodies of animals e.g. gelatine. I'm a strict vegetarian and I avoid all animal products, including the red food colouring E120, which is made from crushed-up beetle grubs.

The whole leather thing...you don't have to avoid leather as a vegetarian. It is hard to find shoes that aren't leather and are good for your feet (Converses, for example, are terrible for your feet), but I don't buy any other leather products - sofas, jackets, belts, handbags. It is totally unnecessary to use leather for those things. And I won't buy anything made of suede - that comes from cow foetuses and is just disgusting.

Hang on. The point that urks me here is not the fish=not meat point, but the fat that they assume that Christmas is pretty dull if you don't eat meat.

Do fuck off morrisons. I've been vegetarian all my life, and have NEVER eaten the same thing for Xmas dinner two years in a row. Every year I'm treated to something fresh, delicious and decidedly NOT DULL.

There are plenty of pescatarians, and I imagine this roast is aimed at them. I eat meat, so won't be trying it as I can't imagine a worse combination than salmon and smoked haddock. Gross doesn't even begin to touch it. DH is a lapsed veggie and will eat fish but not meat. He doesn't like meat, it isn't an ethical stance.

Strict veggies, lovely, now get over yourselves. It's a free world, you eat what you want and shut about about it.

What bugs me as a vegetarian is whenever you mention it to meat eaters they always start telling you how they hardly ever eat meat and are practically vegetarian. I always think, Well why don't you just give it up altogether then? I also think they're downplaying the amount they eat it, coz it seems like everywhere I look people are stuffing themselves with it.

I like to think this is because meat eaters know deep-down it's a disgusting habit! Like smoking!

I agree with moogdroog....I'm a lifelong veggie and I love Christmas dinner. This year I'm making cheese, sun-dried tomato and lentil loaf (non-veggies probably think that sounds minging, but it's LOVELY).
