to think Dani Harmer's attitude stinks?

She has been touted for months and months as the lead in Cinderella in our local panto. I have 3 huge DH fans and their grandma bought 7 tickets for the Saturday before Christmas as an extra special treat/Christmas present. Now she's otherwise engaged ... dancing in Strictly. I totally understand that understudies may perform because the star is sick or injured ... but had a better job offer, I mean really??? She's doing all the other shows so that's ok apparently ... really??? Our ticket prices were the same; there was no indication on the booking site that she had other plans for that night. I am so angry Xmas Angry!!!

And breathe ...

That's quite crap. I'm guessing she didn't think she'd get this far in strictly?

The theatre must have known and been happy to sign her up on that basis, so I think their attitude stinks as well.

beckyboo232 · 17/12/2012 17:59

Would they swap the tickets to another date if you called? I'd be pretty mad too! Though I guess she personally probably had very little say in the decision her management will sort the schedule/contracts. I imagine anyway.

thebody · 17/12/2012 18:00

I have never heard of her tbh but agree its not on.

MissKeithLemon · 17/12/2012 18:02

But you buy a ticket for the performance, and not the star in it, which may be changed at any time for any number of reasons. It's all there in your ticket terms & conditions.
Tbh, I'd have been looking to change tickets for a Saturday performance weeks ago had I been going to see DH specifically rather than the performance.

I'm not sure her attitude stinks at all. Should she have turned down the strictly gig just in case it meant she missed a couple of panto performances by getting on so well in the dance comp? I'm sure the theatre don't think so.

YABU.

LeeCoakley · 17/12/2012 18:03

Try to get the tickets changed maybe? Get in fast though - others might do the same thing!

LeeCoakley · 17/12/2012 18:06

We'd have all thought her bonkers if she said that she couldn't do the Strictly gig next weekend because of a panto commitment though

SantasENormaSnob · 17/12/2012 18:09

Lucky escape imo.

She has a face I'd never tire of slapping.

Sirzy · 17/12/2012 18:11

Exactly lee the theatre will have known that it was a risk when they signed her up to do it.

When did you book tickets?

Themumsnotroastingonanopenfire · 17/12/2012 18:11

When did your DM buy the tickets? The date of the Strictly final has also been known for months, so the theatre would also have known for a long time that she would not be doing this performance. I can see why you might be annoyed at the theatre management for not making it clear, but it is hardly Dani Harmer's fault and YABVU to blame her for the situation.

MrsKeithRichards · 17/12/2012 18:13

Who is she?

LIZS · 17/12/2012 18:13

Chances are she signed up for panto first but surely you knew that she was in Strictly when you bought the tickets and even those who get knocked out tend to appear at the Final ?

Thisisaeuphemism · 17/12/2012 18:13

Eh really? You're going to the panto to see dani harmer? That's unreasonable in itself.

She's Tracey Beaker!

zandy · 17/12/2012 18:16

snap!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/12/2012 18:17

YABU

There is nothing on tickets for any panto or theatre which guarantees who will be playing what role. It is a chance you take.

EssexGurl · 17/12/2012 18:18

At least you know in advance. It happens a lot in the West End - you turn up and they announce minutes before the performance that the understudy is on. It happened to us at Grease - Shane Ritchie wasn't on that day. I was in the loo at the time and only found out when someone else came on. DH thought I'd heard so hadn't thought to mention it. I was gutted!

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 17/12/2012 18:23

I think with an ensemble cast you have to accept it. I once complained as I'd bought tickets to see Tell Me On A Sunday (one-woman show) with Denise van Outen. Turned up and it was her understudy, she was on hols but they hadn't told me at the time of booking. I felt with a one person cast there's an argument that you're going to see the person as much as the show.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 17/12/2012 18:25

Not that I'm a huge Denise fan, just didn't want to pay 80 quid to see a blonde chick I'd never heard of.

Loveliesbleeding · 17/12/2012 18:29

Obviously the real mistake your mother made was to pick the wrong panto - Berick Kaler at the Theatre Royal is classic pantomine - not a C lister in sight.

ChristmasPickles · 17/12/2012 18:31

Panto's always make a big deal about the sleb that's starring though don't they? That's what gets nutters people buying tickets, so I do think this is poor.

Especially as panto tickets are the biggest rip-off known to man!

MsElleTow · 17/12/2012 18:37

She's been in Strictly since September the launch show on September 15th. So I would have imagined she was approached for that sometime in June/July, so there was probably a good chance SCD was there before the Panto!

Her attitude doesn't stink! She has done well to get to the final, no way should she drop out now!

You bought tickets for the Panto, not the actress, she might have had the 'flu or D&V, or some other reason why she couldn't be there!

YABU!

I thought this was going to be about her claims [chokes slightly] to be a size 6. But seriously, surely Dani Harmer wasn't signed up with the intention of being a "draw" to anyone?

If she made the theatre aware that she may not be able to commit to every single performance due to other engagements at the time of signing on, and theatre were prepared to take her on on that basis, then she certainly hasn't done anything wrong.
