to think blogs are crap?

Admittedly I haven?t read all that many, but I have read a few?all of which are just drivel. Is anyone really interested in the minutiae of someone else?s life to that extent?
Why would you write one? Why would you think other people want to read it?

(Obviously I am missing something aren?t I? )

So don't read them.

I read blogs that interest me and apply to my lifestyle. Those that don't, I don't read, as opposed to dismissing them as "crap".

There ARE some fab ones - but the ones I enjoy tend to be more refelections on what is going on in the world than navel-gazing.

Well I only read blogs which are applicable to things I am interested in. If I read a gardening blog...yawn yawn but if I read a blog about something I love then all good.

Just don't read them then.

I really like this one, it's witty reviews on reality tv such as strictly come dancing & X Factor, although I only read the SCD one. I'm not really a fan of the diary style this is my life type blog, is that the kind you mean?

ok, well i am missing something then. because the ones i have read are like brain spew; he equivalent of the diary that should be kept prrivately under your pillow....

My colleague writes a blog. I always think of this when she begins a sentence with, "So I was writing a blog post....".

Having said that, I do occasionally read Beautyfool, which is a half decent beauty blog.

Not that I think all blogs are crap, of course! It's just that there is a terrible oversupply, and the poor souls who write them naturally have to promote them even at the cost of annoying people. I've done it myself

I find blogs boring so I don't read them but I know people who do, so each to their own.

However, I had the misfortune to skim read 2 blogs this morning and talk about an eye opener. I had no idea how much personal information and shitty laundry some people air in public.

I guess they can be either a good thing or bad, just like Facebook and Twitter etc.

You are goading though aren't you? You know that a lot of bloggers use Mumsnet and that a lot of Mumsnetters read blogs. If you wanted to have a serious conversation about blogs and blogging you would have asked your question in a different way.

There are some really good ones. I love cookery blogs ('Smitten Kitchen' being one which springs to mind) and a couple of family members have them so I read those too. The general 'being a mummy' ones can be a bit annoying, but even those have some interesting bits and pieces in from time to time.

I think before people begin to blog they should remember Thursday's first law....just because you can write, doesn't mean you should.

There are some beautiful, witty, intelligent, hilarious blogs out there, that I spend hours reading...and lol-ing at, and crying at, and splutting my coffee out at.

And then, yes, there's the "I've had a baby! And I'm going to tell the world about every fucking smile and shitty nappy for the next 5 yrs" blog.

I write one partly about my DS who has a relitavly rare medical condition (now hopefully 'fixed') partly as a diary for me and partly to reach out to others who are going through the same/similar thing. But I'm not forcing anyone to read it!

I wouldn't be so general but yes, you have to sift through a lot of crap to find the good stuff. It's because people are now able to get their writing out there, unmoderated by publishing companies or other types of intermediary.

The witty, interesting, knowledgeable writers are all still out there. But you have to try to distinguish them from the sort of person who, pre-blogging, would have declared that one day they might write a book about their life. Plus, of course, all the people who are trying to sell you something.

If you wanted to have a serious conversation about blogs and blogging you would have asked your question in a different way

Obviously YABU. There are blogs about pretty much everything. Many are absolutely tripe and badly written while many others are informative, interesting and well written.
