I have just bought dd2 some new sleep suits (a 2 pack) when I got them home I put one on her which she promptly wee'd on as many 5 month olds do Grin I put the other one on her and noticed a hole in it. Today I took the sleep suit back without the other one (the we'd on one, as it hasn't been washed yet) I told the lady it was part if a two pack but could I just swap the faulty one and they could keep the other one. She said no, so I explained that she could put the non faulty one with the faulty one to make a two pack and I would just take one sleep suit. Again she said no. She went and got manager who said I see what you mean but we won't do it!! I am annoyed as now have to traipse two children back to shop after washing wee suit tomorrow. I am considering writing a complaint as I think its stupid and am now cross! Aibu??

Yabu

And yabu for putting an unwashed sleepsuit on a baby.

PumpkinPositive · 05/12/2012 18:50

YABVVU for being in Next in the first place. It has gone to the utter dogs of late. Don't even get me started on River Island...

hattymattie · 05/12/2012 18:50

YANBU - the garment is faulty - they are obliged to change it - the fact it was in a two part pack is their problem not yours - surely somewhere are huge as Next is capable of giving you another sleepsuit from another pack.

This is really bad customer relations.

makinglemonade · 05/12/2012 18:51

Yabu
Read your OP back to yourself and you will agree

Chopchopbusybusy · 05/12/2012 18:51

YANBU. You made a perfectly sensible suggestion.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 05/12/2012 18:52

YANBU.

Stupid shop policies / processes getting in the way of of common sense.

To beat the system you should have bought a new two pack, swapped the faulty one with the new one and then returned the half new / half faulty pack.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 05/12/2012 18:54

Yes hatty.

But the product bought was a pack. The pack needs to be returned. Not one part of it.

Cortana · 05/12/2012 18:57

YANBU. Either way they end up with a pack of two. One faulty, one not.

They obviously just prefer the one that's been pissed in and washed for some strange reason. I hate it when shops demand the packaging too, I recycle things ffs, I didn't keep it, I expected my product to work!

(I am giving the benefit of the doubt that you had a receipt here though and didn't just turn up with a next sleepsuit that could have been bought elsewhere, online for example)

Jemma1111 · 05/12/2012 18:59

YANBU

I can't understand why people think you are being, its ridiculous !

If you take the used one back aswell then that one can't even be sold on its own in a sale. Its common sense for them to have just swapped your faulty one and kept the other brand new one for themselves.

I'd be tempted to take the weed one back without being washed as I'd be pissed off with this, I wouldn't though !

PumpkinPositive · 05/12/2012 19:02

I find it strange that they want the wee-y one back. Smacks of jobsworthing.

Well I think YANBU Grin

Dotty342kids · 05/12/2012 19:05

why's it unreasonable to not wash the sleep suit before putting it on a baby? It's new! It doesn't need washing! I never, ever washed anything that was new from a shop before putting it on my kids.
Madness I say, madness (grin)

PumpkinPositive · 05/12/2012 19:05

Are you going to clean the wet one first or return in full gory glory? Grin

Clandy · 05/12/2012 19:05

This is exactly my point! It's a case of them not being able to see the wood for the trees! They said its because they can't sell it on- which leads me to believe they will sell on my wee'd in sleep suit. I thought I was doing them a favour! I did consider buying another but it seemed too much hassle Grin yes I have receipt.

I think they should have just swapped the faulty one for you.
To save another trip to the store, I would have bought another set, gone outside, swapped the faulty one over and gone back in for a refund. If its faulty, they can't refuse a refund and they would be getting 2 back.

YoucanringmySleighBells · 05/12/2012 19:14

YANBU - it makes no difference - they will end up with one faulty and one not anyway - idiots.

Sparklingbrook · 05/12/2012 19:15

YABU shopping at Next. Grin

ClutchingPearls · 05/12/2012 19:22

Its common for stores to request the whole item back (I.e both suits) because if ones faulty the other one from the same batch may well be, maybe not now but in a couple of washes. (they only see it as a fault rather than a one off damaged item) They can't split packs either.

I'm good at complaining but with this one, while annoying, is standard practice so I wouldn't bother with writing.

SnowWhiterThenWhite · 06/12/2012 07:57

I see what you mean and in an ideal world it wouldn't be a problem but yabu.

I work on retail and we simply can't take anything without the full set in which it was purchased. If it was a 2 pack then it has to be returned as a 2 pack never mind the condition. It has to do with store records etc.

MadCap · 06/12/2012 08:05

yanbu I used to work in John Lewis and we'd do that all the time. Say a bit of a coffret was faulty, we would just take a non-faulty one off the shelf and change it for the customer. Disney Store did this for us recently too. One of dd's figures from a Tangled set wouldn't stand (so not even broken) and they changed just the figure. No problem. I would put your experience in Next down to really poor service.

Witchety · 06/12/2012 08:10

Well my dd works in the children's dept of next and says she would have said the same..... She's also a mystery shopper for other shops

Next come down hard on those who fail the mystery shopper!
