I have just bought dd2 some new sleep suits (a 2 pack) when I got them home I put one on her which she promptly wee'd on as many 5 month olds do Grin I put the other one on her and noticed a hole in it. Today I took the sleep suit back without the other one (the we'd on one, as it hasn't been washed yet) I told the lady it was part if a two pack but could I just swap the faulty one and they could keep the other one. She said no, so I explained that she could put the non faulty one with the faulty one to make a two pack and I would just take one sleep suit. Again she said no. She went and got manager who said I see what you mean but we won't do it!! I am annoyed as now have to traipse two children back to shop after washing wee suit tomorrow. I am considering writing a complaint as I think its stupid and am now cross! Aibu??

YABU.

You buy a pack you return the whole package.

As for why clothes should be washed before wear... After manufacture clothes are sprayed with pesticides to prevent insect infestation and damage. The countries where many clothes are made have some far more serious insects than the UK.

Pesticides are poisons. Chemicals can leach through the skin. This is why it is recommended that you wash ALL clothes before wearing them - but babies clothes in particular. Poisons are designed to kill insects so not a good thing to have round babies, and worse if they suck or chew sleeves etc. Some babies can have allergic reactions too, some very severe.

This is why I wash everything, plus it gives the opportunity to check items over so faulty items can be detected.

FredFredGeorge · 06/12/2012 08:30

Witchety But the store has to repair or replace etc. the faulty goods, there's no requirement for the customer to provide the non-faulty goods.

This is not a return under the store policy, it's a simple SOGA faulty goods. Next's store policy on returns is irrelevant and over ridden by the law.

Clandy · 06/12/2012 17:11

Thanks coolA I didn't know that bout the clothes. That is quite horrible! Will wash from now on!!

I still think common sense should prevail! But suppose I will agree to disagree Grin

What if you no longer had the other sleepsuit? Given it away or lost it? Doesn't get them out of their obligation to replace faulty under SOGA. YANBU

Clandy · 06/12/2012 17:56

That's avoid point Van!! Grin

Yanbu. H&M refunded me the price of one faulty maternity bra from a pack of two when I explained I was wearing the other one.

Clandy · 07/12/2012 20:15

I think now I am not being unseasonable! Took my sleep suits back today- they were sold out of the size I wanted despite it being in last time, it is also unavailable to order Hmm

OP posts:
kid · 07/12/2012 22:49

Couldn't they just give you a full refund then seeing as they couldn't offer a replacement.

Clandy · 08/12/2012 18:25

Yeah I got a refund but that's not what I wanted. I wanted the sleep suits!

OP posts:
TotesFeckingAmaze · 08/12/2012 18:28

They should have refunded you as a goodwill gesture. YANBU.

The poster who washes new clothes....really?! Do you iron your husband's undies, too? Grin

Kinnane · 08/12/2012 18:33

They could easily have done as you asked.

I have gone off Next as the owned took a salary of 1.5m last year and they pay staff peanuts.

Kinnane · 08/12/2012 18:36

sorry! owner

simplesusan · 08/12/2012 18:45

Well I think Next were being rediculous.
You are now left without any sleepsuits! They are also a sale down.

SomersetONeil · 08/12/2012 18:48

Wow - I can't believe people think YABU. Xmas Confused

Why would you return a perfectly good item of clothing, just because it happen to be sold as a duo?

SantaWearsGreen · 08/12/2012 19:01

A logical thing to have done would have been to wash and dry the other one and take them BOTH back to get a replacement pack rather than traipsing down there with just the one and (rightfully) being refused..

They can't accept a part of what you bought back and give you a replacement for just the one. That's just not how it goes, ever. I thought everyone knew that..

MistressIggi · 08/12/2012 19:08

Ok Santa, what if I bought a pack of two doughnuts, ate one and then found a worm/finger/mooncup in the 2nd, can I not return 2nd doughnut as I cannot return them both?

FredFredGeorge · 08/12/2012 19:16

SantaWearsGreen No that would not be the logical thing to do, that would be the stupid thing to do. The shop has a requirement under the sales of goods act to replace or repair the faulty goods, it does not need and has no right to the other non-faulty goods they are still yours.

The store policy is irrelevant, the law overrides it. It's a shame that you let the stores take advantage of you.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 08/12/2012 19:29

Yabu for not just sewing up the fecking hole. It would have taken you minutes, far less time than it took you to traipse back to next, argue the toss, and start this thread . Does nobody sew anything anymore?

Clandy · 08/12/2012 19:30

Husband is a police officer and he said no crime would have been committed if I has just taken a new one and left the other in its place! Shame I wouldn't dare Grin

OP posts:
Clandy · 08/12/2012 19:32

Why would I see it? It's brand new if it was older yes I would but if I'm going to start seeing all the new things I buy I may as well just make my own. Besides its a christmas one and I wanted a good one for some nice piccies!!

OP posts:
Clandy · 08/12/2012 19:33

See not see!

OP posts:
