THE WHITE COMPANY IS USING LIPSTICK ON SMALL GIRLS IN ADS

In their latest Christmas catalogue 2012, 7/8 year old girls are shown clearly wearing lipstick. I'm sickened to see The White Company encouraging children to see themselves as adults prematurely.

I am very suspicious that you work for them. the girls in their website pictures look sweet, innocent and young. And, I now want their very expensive sleepwear for DD.

Or maybe they are aware that flashes and bright lights on anyone in a professional photo make them look terrible so put make up on them? My Dsis was in adverts 25 years ago as a small child and they always put make up on her?

any child model used in a catalogue would be wearing make up. Perhaps it's just a bit more obvious in this one.

What children are you worried about exactly? The ones who will read the catalogue all six of them or the ones who are, like, professional models, earning money and competing for jobs based on their looks. which probably makes them see themselves as adults prematurely

There is probably photoshop used to even out skin tones/hide blemishes/adjust anything else.

Sad as it is, it is pretty standard.

And in the case of the makeup, fairly practical, flash can be harsh.

They're under stage lights, of course they're wearing make up. You're being ridiculous.

My 5 year old will be wearing make up in her dance show next week. She has been since she was 2. It's normal.

What everyone else has said, at most shoots kids will have makeup on, (concealer, powder, bush and sometimes lip colour, like tinted balm), younger than 8 too, take a look at the kids on M&S/any company that uses child models, most if not all will have put some kind of makeup on the children, sickened? really?

For the record I hardly ever wear make up and DD1 gets teased because she refuses to wear it to school.

I don't get why make up on little girls is evil, it's playing at being grown up and using your self as another piece of drawing paper.It's fun.

I imagine that they've got a lot more makeup on than just lipstick OP. I'd imagine full foundation, blusher, mascara, lipstick at least.
Then the'll have had their eyebrows plucked, nails manicured and hair styled, curled or straightened.

Of course models have makeup on to make them look normal (as they do usually, but under bright lights, before anyone jumps on me) but I think the OP is talking about makeup as in properly coloured, visible lipstick to make an effect. So I see her point but think she may have been expecting a bandwagon with her "sickened" comment.

Had a further look and they don't look as though they're wearing lipstick, so I don't think I do see your point afterall!

Its already been said but, most children in tv adverts, magazines, catalogues wear make up. Under the bright lights they need to.

Dd did a campaign for the local council for the libraries. She was on a leaflet, she wore make up.

Why this would sicken you I don't know.

I volunteer at a children's dance school, and we've got a show coming up in February, for which stage make-up is, of course, compulsory. And I swear that the parents get more and more precious each year. Last time, one woman wailed at me that she wouldn't even allow her DD to have her hair gelled to keep it in a ballet bun; we had a very long battle with her over stage make-up for her child.

I have just been to have a look at the White Company website and all i could see were very lovely, very natural looking young girls. They will all be wearing make up but in no way is it obvious. I was expecting to see girls in scarlet lippy lol! Get a grip OP!!!

Agree with the other posters. Flash photography without make up makes you look crap. Further, the photos will be photoshopped too. Same goes for the lentil weaver catalogues selling babygros made out of hemp.
