to think taking your child to see santa this week

It's bad enough people putting their decorations up this week but taking your kids to visit Santa in November under the premise of "it's for the kids" is utter nonsense. It is all about the parent and will probably spoil some of the excitement for the children nearer the date.

I would have thought that people make appointments with Santa as he's awfully busy the nearer you get to Christmas ?

Apparently he is arriving at our local mahoosive unnecessarily expensive Garden centre today. Oh joy.

Spreading the excitement over such a long period must dilute the excitement surely?
Over a month to a child must seem like an eternity.

I think it could confuse very small children when there is a huge gap between seeing Father Christmas and him delivering the loot.

If you want to go on a booked thing - like a santa train or soemthing, november is pretty much all they have left if you haven't booked in January :) I dont think it spoils it for them - just makes it longer to wait for him

I am not saying it's stupid JUST because I wouldn't do it. I can assure you there are plenty of things that others do, that I don't, which I don't think are remotely stupid.

As for saying the parents are just wanting to do something nice for DC, well that's my point, it's not particularly nice to visit Santa in November and then wait for ever IMO. I am sure they could think of other nice things to do in November no?

I don't think its stupid - shortsighted maybe - as its a long wait from 1st December to Christmas Eve. And to keep that level of excitement would be exhausting.

Its bad enough we have advent calendars, elf on the shelf, various trips to santa - down the mine, down the caves and on a train for us - but for it all to start in November??!! December 1st for us.

I really wish Christmas just started later. I hate it and I don't want 3 months of the year taken up with it.

No problem if people like it, that's great and I am glad they do. But does it really need to be spread over such a long time and have all these trappings that you "have" to do? You have to go ice-skating, you have to have an advent calendar, a Christmas cake, do something on Christmas eve...

Santa arrives in my town tomorrow, a parade through the town centre with real reindeer to his grotto in the shopping centre. I am taking DD to see the parade but probably not to the actual grotto as the queues will be horrendous. I expect lots of people will go to the grotto tomorrow though, it is quite early but then we have a lot going on at the weekends in December itself and maybe others are the same so taking their chance just now?

It must be all v confusing to small children. Father Christmas arrives at the v expensive Garden centre today, then the shopping centre in town next Saturday. I am glad mine are older and don't question things any more.

I still think it's a nice thing to do and not necessarily all about the parents. You just come across as very sneering about this.
