nice change from the usual wotsits and fruitshoots

mil keeps her fruit in a bowl on the table in the living room, she has 3 babied dogs, she buys the fruit for the dc's, which is nice but the dogs go on the table and eat it out of the bowl, she will laugh and say "oh,looks like (dog) has eaten all the oranges, you can have an apple" for example and sometimes picks bits of half eaten fruit out of the bowl

My MIL does this with the cat, fruitbowl and all kitchen surfaces - and there is only one dishcloth used for both washing up and wiping the cat hair off the kitchen table down the worksurfaces.

That's disgusting. It's a bit tricky as it's MIL, could you get DH to tackle it? Or just teach the DCs if they are old enough about the potential risk of parasites. If they are very young maybe you could try "they've been having a bit too much fruit, so I've been told to restrict to what they have at home" btw, this came up when you were talking to health visitor, GP recently and they told you to redress the balance by increasing veg and reducing fruit a bit. Something about the sugar /fibre content, or ratio or summat

Ewww, that's rank. YANBU. Eat fruit before you go, or just politely tell them/her that they can't have the fruit as the dogs have slobbered all over them and it's not very hygienic.

How old are your DC? Could you get them to wash the fruit before they eat it? They could learn to say "Mummy wants me to wash all fruit before I eat it". Not perfect but it's something.

that is gross - still it is good to encourage children to wash fruit anyway, where better place to learn...all the same...eeewwwwww

Aaargh! I love my dog but no way would I eat anything he has slobbered on, never mind allow a child to. I know where he's been!

Actually mine loves fruit. We have a pear tree and rarely do we get any pears between him amd the wasps.

Our old dog got pissed on wind fall apples once then shat them out in my room so DP put him in the car and he shat all over the car....oh how we laughed.
