to think that this week's M&S dine in for a tenner is a rip off?

I have to spend another £7.00 supplementing it so there's enough for me and dh!

I got a chicken pie, leek and bacon mash, millionaire's shortbread layered desserts and a full bottle of Pinot Grigio! The pie should have been £6.99 on its own Grin

well to be fair, DP bought it so he might have not quite understood the deal, but he came home with paella, some veg, an apple pie and a 60cl bottle of vin rouge..........

60cl is a very odd size for a bottle of wine? That's 4/5ths of a bottle.

It's a rip off every week IMHO. DP and I cook up a pork belly with some wonderful seasonal veg and a jug of water. Sum total, 40p per person.

We took delivery of a considerable amount of pork bellies after a futures contract expired before DP could sell it on. We're absolutely swimming in frozen pig goodness.

But if we weren't, I have my sources. The Waitrose deli counter 5 minutes before closing offers serious bargains for those who are skilled in the art of meat negotiation.

The waitrose deli counter is open to everyone I believe, and the reduced veg section there and tesco always has incredible bargains provided you go at the right time. In this case the veg was home grown, but there's always a deal to be had when you're a savvy shopper and you don't let convenience dictate things.

The art of meat negotiation is an acquired skill, but to sum up the staff at the deli counters have considerable discretion in pricing. You just have to be bold enough to ask.

I agree it's available to all but we can't all wait until it's reduced or it wouldn't happen as too many people queued. Sadly I don't live near a supermarket that does reduced veg but good luck to you.

Thanks happy - i appreciate that it's not a thing everyone can do. I am lucky to have the facilities nearby. But do make sure you always keep an eye out for those red and yellow labels. Some people think the best way to shop is with a list that you stick to rigorously. I completely disagree - my way of shopping is to buy whatever is cheap, and make the best of it and enjoy the variety. It's served me very well and there's always a nutritious and healthy balance.

DH would die happy (from saturated fat overload, or some sort of gut explosion!)

Our Waitrose's reductions just make me angry. "Well, this was £5.99, but it's best before today, so you can have it for £5.49!!!" Cheers Hmm

Meat keeps a lot longer than the recommended time. The only thing that degrades is the quality - but that is slight and barely noticeable if one makes a stew.
