I live kind of West, but can't donate unfortunately. Nor can my husband as we have both received blood products in the past.

West of UK or of ENgland? I'm so far West that a five minute walk would have my feet wet!

I live in the North West, I can't donate due to receiving a blood donation (did before then) but DH gives in my stead. He's going next week.

They don't want mine anymore. I'm officially anaemic .

How old do you have to be to start donating blood? dds look v. overexcited full of beans won't sodding well go to sleep even though it's school tomorrow to me, they might benefit from handing some over!

I miss the nice cup of tea and biccy. I'd done 11 donations and got a jolly bronze certificate thing, then they sent me home one day after the pricky finger bit with a letter for my GP, since when I've taking iron pills three times a day on prescription.

I'm a bit scared about giving because since I last gave blood I had a pregnancy where I was constantly told my veins are rubbish and I'm down to the last one before they use my hands/feet!

So what are the rules as to who can or can't give blood?
I can't give blood here (US) because I lived in UK during whatever years all that mad cow stuff was going on. They want non of my good stuff.

I am not in the south west but give regularly anyway. Last time they couldn't take it though, the iron count was too low. Imperial, will they take yours in future or are you now forever a blood donating outcast? I am worried I will end up that way too! :(

I was booked in to give blood for the first time ever after years of low folate, under weight-ness & 1 pregnancy... then I got bitten by an insect which got infected & I finished my antibiotics on the day of my appointment. 2 weeks later, & before they had any more appointments, I got pregnant again! True story! I send DH to be bled dry regularly though!

I don't think being born in a malarial area rules you out.
When we lived in Thailand, I donated regularly. I haven't been able to do it since then.
All the countries we've lived in assume I have vCJD.
