To think I'm still protected (Possible TMI)

Hey y'all

If you have D&V 10 hours after taking the combined pill are you still protected? Took mine at 8pm (usual time) and was best mates with the bathroom between 6 and 7am.

Sorry for TMI!

You may be ok but even if there is only a slim chance that you are not is that a risk worth taking?

stinkinseamonkey · 04/11/2012 11:16

The pill is absorbed using the natural bacteria in the lower gut, not from the stomach, so google how long it takes to get that far.. although if you were already colonised by other bugs before you actually had D&V it still might not work

stinkinseamonkey · 04/11/2012 11:16

in short I wouldn't feel confident about the cover

Do you want a baby? If not and you did the bumping of the uglies last night you can go get map. Don't forget to use condoms for the next seven days.

Trills · 04/11/2012 11:25

YABU

Condoms for 7 days.

I'll assume that you haven't had any sex yet...

Unless you want to be pregnant, of course.

stinkinseamonkey · 04/11/2012 11:44

p.s. If you've had sex or are planning to in the next week without MAP/condoms, and you get pregnant, it won't be an "accident" it'll be your choice IMO

Naysa · 04/11/2012 11:51

Don't know why OP would be "bumping uglies" if she's just had D+V tbh.

CookingFunt · 04/11/2012 11:55

Well if she took it at 8pm and d&v hit at 6am that leaves 10 hours in which she could have sex.

stinkinseamonkey · 04/11/2012 12:18

she could have had sex before the symptoms started that week, or after they finish (but within 7 days)

McHappyPants2012 · 04/11/2012 12:19

I would use condoms for 7 days, better be on the safe side

grapelovingweirdo · 04/11/2012 12:24

Hey

Thanks for the advice. I will be more careful for the next seven days :)

And nope, no bumping uglies for me yesterday and definitely none until I'm feeling human again! x

My friend had one episode of d&v whilst on the pill and ger daughter is 7 next week. I wouldn't chance it if I were you

Isandri · 04/11/2012 13:00

All I know is that you need to use condoms for 7 days afterwards to get your protection back up. I'm not sure how it works for the pill and sex you had just before the d&v. If it was me I'd take the MAP.

CookingFunt · 04/11/2012 13:06

Get well soon xxx

featherbag · 04/11/2012 13:45

That's what a friend thought. She now has twin boys !

grapelovingweirdo · 04/11/2012 14:20

If you take your next pill on time then you should be fine. With my pill you only need condoms for 7 days if you miss two. Thats based on what it says on the pack, not me assuming.

Your pill stays in your system for 12 hours, the pill just keeps it topped up. It isnt like miss one = you ovulate.

Wellthen · 04/11/2012 15:08

Sorry that should say take your next one straight away. Treat it like a missed pill.

Naoko · 04/11/2012 18:05

I haven't got one to hand but I'm sure the leaflet on my pill says it is ineffective if you have D&V within 3 hours of taking it...so if yours is the same you'd be ok? Check the packet and the leaflet if you have one, it'll almost certainly answer it.
