MAC cosmetics tests on animals !!

I am gutted to read that MAC has changed its animal testing policy and now tests on animals ! Surely in this day and age it is so not necessary. After all the progress that has been made over the years against animal testing , this seems to be a huge move backwards . Apparently to sell in the hugely lucrative market of china the law there demands all cosmetics sold there to be tested on animals. I am sure a lot of people are unaware of this policy change and what it means . The same goes for all the companies under the estée Lauder group . Shame on you !

Wow, what a backwards step, I stopped the Avon woman a few months ago after learning they test on animals, she text me a few weeks after to say they stopped in March due to public pressure but that will only affect any new products so the books are full of products tested on animals.

Another lovely brand that thinks we are stupid, Urban Decay think that supplying make-up to women in China is a human rights issue and that their wanting to promote women means that testing on animals is OK. The statement is pretty twisty-turny in it's logic.

Having checked on the PETA website this is absolutely true. I'm not much of a make up user but will happily boycott there firms.

Almost all standard makeup in the high street is tested on animals at some stage in production. Most companies just get around it by buying chemicals from a supplier that test on animals, but then don't test themselves.

I looked into it a couple of years ago and bought loads of stuff from Urban Decay, at the time they were the only well known brand who didn't test, or were owned by a parent company eg Body Shop, who test on animals. I think BUAV do a good print out list of non testing companies.

It's depressing really.

Cosmetic company can even use little pictures of bunnies on their stuff and it doesn't mean jack.

I am so annoyed with MAC they portray themselves as caring and forward thinking . I was looking at buying some MAC gift sets as Xmas presents when I came across the fact that they have changed their policy re: animal testing . The policy is obviously cleverly worded to make you think that they are still opposed to animal testing . That so annoys me I'm sure people should be clearly aware of the facts when spending hard earned cash . I won't be buying MAC again until they rethink this policy . When you look at the PETA animal cruelty lists it is shocking how many companies do test .
Well done to super drug , sainsburys and marks and spencer who's own products all DO NOT test on animals!

You need to check out the BUAV website as vj32 says - look for the leaping bunny logo. All Superdrug own brands are good to use.

Re: make up, cruelty free products to use, include Pixi or go onto the Cocktail Cosmetics website, they are all ok to use, as are Nature's Inspiration mineral products (they don't have the cruelty free bunny on their website and I e-mailed them to query this, but apparently is costs dosh to use the logo (typical) and as most cruelty free products are small independent companies (not owned by L'oreal or Estee Lauder etc) therefore cannot afford extra outgoings. Everyday Minerals are great too they are PETA and BUAV approved.

www.cutecosmetics.co.uk/index.asp are worth a try (tho' some foundations are a tad pricey - I would rather use them than buy summat that's been tested on animals).

I am a bit annoyed at myself too coz I considered myself a big animal lover but my eyes have been opened now ! Going on the BUAV website now thanks, I know neal's yard has the leaping bunny logo although that's more skin care . Never really been a superdrug shopper but I am now . I was in superdrug this afternoon and stocked up on a load of their own brand products . So cheap !

Good for Urban Decay. Will immediately buy some great excuse to shop.

This is why I buy Oriflame now because it's one of the only ones I can go back through and find it to be ethical from stage one. It's bloody hard sourcing animal friendly stuff thats not mega expensive sometimes.

I find the MAC ladies quite frightening-

I'm suprised at quite a few of those names that test on animals! Absolutely gutted that dove do as I really like their products but don't want to use them anymore!

PETA are an American site.

Mac are not allowed to test on animals because of European law.

Although what happens is the individual bits of a lipstick or whatever are tested.

Oh no! That's rubbish! I just buy Marks and Spencer's own, which is BUAV approved.

Just so you know this is NOT a new policy for MAC. They have had stores in China for at least 3+ years now so will have had to have been Animal testing for that whole time.

All cosmetics sold in china have to be tested on animals.
