I park my car on a side street near the station so I don't have to pay the parking.

Several times somebody has written this isn't a car park, use a car park etc on the window with a glass pen so it does come off.

Last night had message scrawled again and on this occasion the perpetrator has let some air out of the tyre, or to give benefit of doubt it is a coincidence.

I now wish to leave a note basically stating that the road is a public highway, my car is taxed and insured and you don't have the right to park on your street unless it is a private road.

My car is gone by 5.00pm and I do get that it is annoying that you can't park outside your house, but equally you could have a neighbour with 3 cars and there would still be issues with parking.

DP thinks I should report to police as the 'writer' is causing criminal damage where I am actually legally parked.....

Well letting air out is a bit naughty, if they did do that, and you may well be legally parked, but I still feel a bit of sympathy for the people who live there who might be doing this. It must be reallly annoying to have someone else's car regularly taking up space outside your house, especially if they have a car themselves.

Leave a note on the inside stating.
This car is now fitted with an internal camera with 24hr recording capability. The public highway is exactly that. Should damage be found the images captured will be reported to the Police with a view to criminal proceedings.

Hah, I'd totally leave a note. We live in a small grove and BRAND NEW neighbours had the cheek to leave a note on my car asking me not to park in front of their house!!! Public road note. I was also very pg at the time and not the most reasonable so they got a note straight back (other side of theirs) pointing out that road was a public road and they'd not particular right to parking outside their own front door (much as everyone would like this of course).

We'd no parking in front of our house at all at the time (done drive since but gates are all packed together on a curve so there was no kerbside parking iykwim) and a neighbour told me afterwards that parking caused such uproar previously that the gardai were called (Irish police) who told everyone that the only people who had a right to park were those with no back entrance, ie us and the other people on the curvy part fo the grove.

Anyway, rant over, was quite annoyed at the time, think I better go and have some ...

It might be useful to vary where you park along the street, so you're not always annoying the same people?

Hmmm I can sympathise with them a bit. It must be a bit annoying having someone parked directly outside your house all day, especially if you have visitors who then can't find a space to park.

But you are right, it's not illegal, and it is naughty of them to write on your car and let the air out (if they did).

How busy is the road? Are there other places in the road you can park, or do you have to leave it outside the same person's house every time?

If they are letting your tyres down now when you haven't responded to them I would be wary about what they would do if you do respond. Paying for parking may work out to be the cheaper option [hconfused]

I'd want to see just who this saddo is though and I'd probably end up arrested for loitering in the bushes.
There are just so many questions..
are they straight out the house and on your car with a note or do they come home and get frustrated? Have they even got a car? Are they male or female? How old? Tank top type or suited and booted?

Oh, and definately a note "Oi, Numpty, smile for the camera and then go get a life" or something to that effect

You aren't being unreasonable, but you could be more reasonable by varying where you park on the road so it's not always in the same space.

If it is such a problem for the residents they should try and get the area made into a residents parking zone, seems to be the norm around stations.

They are right to be annoyed but wrong to think they can do anything about it! We live near a station that serves central London and people would wake us up parking from about 6.30 a.m. (radios blaring cos, you know, they were UP and why shouldn't we be?!) and leave their cars their-for free- all day. Mighty annoying if you had a visitor or tradesman due. It was only when the council introduced residents parking permits meaning you couldn't park there over lunchtime, that the problem was solved.

Yes, but it is really annoying when the same person parks outside your house every single day.

I get this with the women who work in the estate agents up the road from my house. I get in my car to do the school run, and when I return, there are three massive 4x4s parked in front of my house, and I have to park bloody metres miles away.

They leave on the dot of 5, when I've already come in and got settled with the kids.
Then, I leave the kids on their own whilst I go out and move my car back outside the house, only to have the same thing the next day.

My life would be so much easier if they would park a few metres down the road, where there aren't any houses, and walk a slightly longer distance to their office. I could rant and rage at them. Instead, I amuse myself by watching their lazy arses spread due to lack of exercise.

I live in a road near a station and people park outside my house every day. However, I have a drive and they are doing nothing illegal. I do get totally pissed off however, when they park over the white lines, obstruct my driveway and make it extremely difficult for me to pull into my drive. And I have left large notices - on paper - on the relevant cars.

I would have thought this is bordering on criminal damage though, which is naughty. Can you ask one of the local community police officers to patrol the street a bit?

I can see it's annoying if you live there but station parking is so expensive! It's £5.60 a day where we commute from so £120.00 per month on top of the £300 per month each DP and I both pay for our train tickets.. Our car park isn't even one of the most expensive ones, in some areas they are as much as £7.00 a day with no alternatives.

So OP UA definitely NBU for parking for free where you can. We park in a residential street that is a 25 minute walk from the station as that's the nearest one that isn't permit holders only. The houses on this residential street all have drives so hopefully it's not massively inconvenient.

amistillsexy Have you asked them about parking a bit further down? Some people can be quite reasonable if they understand that they're causing you a problem.

I can imagine that it would be frustrating BUT if people are parking legally and respectfully then I don't think there is anything to moan about. If you buy near a train station chances are you will get this sort of thing. Parking on or across somebody's drive is just downright rude!

I get pissed off with cars parking outside my house all the time, especially when I have to lug a toddler and all our stuff in and out of the car several times a day. I live on a private estate so technically no-one has the right to park outside anyone's houses so even we don't have the right to park outside there but most people seem to respect the fact that people like to park outside their own houses. There's one bloody annoying car that parks outside my house every Friday afternoon and leaves it there until Monday morning, without moving it. This is because the moron has another car and uses that all weekend. There are designated 'visitor' spaces on the estate and I wish wish wish that this person would keep an eye out for the spaces becoming available and move their car. I've wondered about leaving a note several times (writing on the glass is definitely boardering on criminal damage though!) but I don't really know what to say since I also technically don't have any right to park outside my house either! Also their car is soooooo bloody ugly, it's an eyesore!

It's not criminal damage if you can wipe it off; that's treated as non-permanent criminal damage which isn't a recordable offence. Letting air of the tyres possibly would be, because it takes time to re-pump.

You could report the flat tyre along with the writing, say you believe the tyre to have been intentionally let down and see if they're interested; there could be CCTV etc. If there's not they won't have much to go on or many lines of enquiry.

It is fucking irritating when people do this. I wouldn't damage someone's car, permanently or otherwise, but I'd be getting mighty fucked off with you.

People park all along my street and then walk to the station. Pisses me right off because they park on the pavement partly. I regularly report them for that...the pavement is for people to WALK on.

OP yanbu but I can see why it mght annoy....do you always park in the same spot?

So why do people think that the bit of road outside their house is their own then? Do you have drives as well?
