DS brought a letter home today saying some children in school had threadworms...
AIBU that I wondered for a moment that it might not be a bad thing if we got them then I might leave them and lose some weight?

ring worm is a fungal infection found on skin.

threadworms or pin worms are little things that make your arse itch

tape worms are mega impressive when they get to a decent size

PlaySchool · 16/10/2012 19:02

I thought it was raspberry flavour ... God that stuff was AWFUL.. I can still remember gagging on it.

EEEK - Me too. I can remember it vividly almost 40 years later!

PlaySchool · 16/10/2012 19:03

What you need to loose weight is what I have - Graves Disease. I've always wanted it, like most people, but it really is shit having it!

DuchessOfAvon · 16/10/2012 19:04

Me too GreenEyesAnd Ham

And I have just been given an allotment that has NOTHING BUT raspberries growing on it.

Xroads · 16/10/2012 19:05

Ewwww to tapeworms and threadworms! Just join slimming world (I joined a month ago and I've lost 7.5lb) or Weightwatchers (I joined in 2008 and lost 3 stone in 6mths) it's not too hard I promise!

debka · 16/10/2012 19:12

My dad used to give us a shot of brandy after the Pripsim (sp?) to take the taste away Grin

Happy days not ...

ChasedByBees · 16/10/2012 19:13

Oh god, I remember the endless vomiting after drinking that stuff. I vomited so much my parents would double dose me. They said it was milkshake to try and get us to drink it Hmm. One afternoon we had a day out by the beach and dad bought my sister and I a real milkshake. As soon as he put it front of us we both began to sob. Grin

WeShouldOpenABar · 16/10/2012 19:14

we should start a Pripsen survivors support group

DuchessOfAvon · 16/10/2012 19:16

yy to PSSG.

Honestly, it ruined my childhood. I was misdisgnosed for about 3 years so was riddled with the little feckers. I practically underwent Gavage de Pripsen.

PLAYSCHOOL

Is Graves Disease the same or similar to an Overactive Thyroid Gland, which I had in my 20s - it damaged my heart as went undiagnosed for years. I also had other horrible side effects/symptoms. I never stopped eating but still lost weight, but my pulse was a dangerous 16O per minute, never mind my blood pressure. But, a DR put a woman who was overweight on excessive dosis of Thyroxin, which is what my thyroid was wrngly producing, and she did lose weight, but when she came off them the Thyroid took over producing this amount and she became dangerously ill. So not advisable.

TessCorpseDissect · 16/10/2012 19:23

Tapes, pins & threads.

Sounds like this should be in good housekeeping. Grin

Uppermid · 16/10/2012 19:27

Why the hell would anyone worms. You're insane!

SomethingOnce · 16/10/2012 19:27

Another one here with bad memories of the revolting raspberry drink. Ugh!

And YABU. Trust me, you never want to itch like that.

FellatioNelson · 16/10/2012 19:29

My friend had that (or at least an overactive thyroid) and she behaved like a wired loon before she was diagnosed and medicated. But then she got better and put weight back on, which she hated, so she started refusing the medication and behaving like a bit of a wired loon again. Confused Don't know what happened in the end, as I moved away, but i know through mutual friends that she did continue to behave bizarrely and was always a bit hyper.

monkeysbignuts · 16/10/2012 19:29

haha!! I had images of spaghetti type worms hanging out of of your cats butt.
My mates dog ate a tea towel once and had it half hanging out Shock

digerd · 16/10/2012 19:30

I was - don't hate me- 7stone 9, and 5foot 2", but went down to 5stone 9, and only because I literally never stopped eating, then my neck swelled up and my eyes bulged -- not a pretty sight.

mummmsy · 16/10/2012 19:31

wasn't pripsen blackcurrant???

SummerRain · 16/10/2012 19:33

My mother used to randomly dose me with that pink stuff despite me never having worms. She was convinced because I could eat my own weight in chocolate and was still a skinny wee thing that I must be infested Hmm

I used to pour it in plant pots when she wasn't looking Grin

monkeysbignuts · 16/10/2012 19:34

graves disease is the extreme of over active thyroid. It has to be treated with iodine or radioactive material (i think) to kill off part of the gland as it really over produces.
If that fails they cut some or all of it out. My aunt had hers removed and just takes thyroxine (not sure if that's how you spell it?)
I treated a patient once who over dose on thyroxine to loose weight, she was so manic!

PeggyBabcockBoot · 16/10/2012 19:36

I thought it was raspberry flavour ... God that stuff was AWFUL.. I can still remember gagging on it.

My kids had the new Mcdonalds drink -Fruiteze today. I took a sip and was immediately transported back to gagging on Pripsen. Even smells the same.

FellatioNelson · 16/10/2012 19:36

I don't recall ever having, or being treated for worms or headlice as a kid. We've nver had worms in our house, but MY GOD the headlice do test my patience. My youngest is 13 and we are STILL battling them. It doesn't help that we live in a hot country.

GreenEyesAndHam · 16/10/2012 19:36

My mum used to make the Pripsen up with MILK.

I also won't drink milk to this day

So was I, my hands shook so much I couldn't sup soup, and had to hold a cup of tea with 2 hands, I became paranoid and thought everyone was plotting behind my back. I started blowing up over nothing, feeling hot and sweating all the time - I thought I was going mad, but is all part of the symptoms. My legs /feet began to swell up like ballons in the evening, including my thighs. but erupting into rages and crying was the result of the imbalance of hormones dr, said. And the leg swelling was toxins. I would jump out of skin at any sudden movement or noise. The worst was when I couldn't get up the stairs without stopping for 20 seconds to get my breath back on every step. By the time i got up the stairs, I just laid on my bed totally weak and exhausted for 20 minutes when my energy eventually returned. Then when the Thyroid swelled and my eyes bulged, Doc, knew what is was, but just said it was nerves before !!!!!!

Gimblinginthewabe · 16/10/2012 19:51

Its tapeworms that make you lose weight, threadworms just make your bum itchy!

monkeysbignuts · 16/10/2012 19:57

bloody hell digerd must have been late stages for those sort of symptoms! Lucky you never had a heart attack.
Glad its all sorted now.

My daughters pre school have a note up at the minute saying they have a few cases of thread worms eeewwww shudder !
