Just to lighten up recent threads.....Mike the Knight has always annoyed me; but the more I watch it the MORE it annoys me (to be clear I am not watching it on my own, or I'd turn it off)

MtK never learns from his mistakes or follows his own slogan. The vikings are just stupid foreigners and the villagers are lumpen idiots and need to be continually bossed about led by a smug incompetent pre-teen knight - in -training, who insists on continually making them applaud his latest self-aggrandising endeavour. I would be trying to make a political point here, if it weren't time for bed and thus I am too knackered to think!

And the other day they were having a sleep over and the queen was still in her gown and crown - production couldn't even be arsed to design some regal jammies.

And the theme tune is sooooo catchy. Arrgh. There are programs that I dislike but my hatred for this one just seems to grow and grow. I know IABU to bother hating a program, but does it irk anybody else?

It was sweet. I loved the theme tune, and used to cry when it went off when I was around 3. The stories are good old fashioned tales.

I also used to like Let's Pretend and Alphabet Zoo(?) Both had cracking theme tunes

TheLazyGirl totally agree about Tiny Pop. There are just no words. My three year old is very much in to it at the moment and the bloody awful programmes together with those sodding adverts for complete tat make me want to throw my telly out the window!

I love Charlie and Lola and Abney and Teal.

Show me Show me is one I make sure I turn off before it even starts, I get irationally angry every time Poi pops up on my telly Angry

After I read the Lazytown-as-nuclear-apocalypse blog post, I couldn't help doing some musings on the nature of In the Night Garden and now I believe it's a vision of hell.

Iggle Piggle is given an occasional reprieve from bobbing terrifyingly in a flimsy boat on a visibly stormy sea to visit his friends in an Eden-like garden, only to find that they can only communicate by repeating their own names or uttering garbled nonsense. Makka Pakka spends his days washing rocks, the Tombleeboos are clumsy soft-headed toddlers living in a briar patch filled with head-puncturing nightmare furniture, the Pontypines are so poor they all have t sleep in the one room and those floating things are always floating forward but never get anywhere. Iggle Piggle only gets to spend 20 minutes there, 5 of which are spent having to hear the days events summed up in cheap cutout animation, before he is whisked off to fight off hungry sharks in his crappy little boat.

And it's narrated by Emperor Claudius, so you know he's in on it but keeping schtum for his own reasons.

thelazygirl I still have the VHS tapes of Trapdoor from when I was little, definitely the best children's programme ever.

Button moon was another good one, and the clangers, and I still love the animation of the magic roundabout - links to drug usage aside!

There just aren't the same calibre of programmes now :(

I'm going to look for the DVD of Trapdoor, definitely then hide it from the brats for my own personal joy

Showed my DD (5) Let's Pretend on Youtube. Her verdict was "boring, and why can you see the lady moving the puppet?". To be fair, she was right.

I need to find this Lazy Town apocalypse blog immediately! Link please PrincessTeacake

I have Trapdoor on DVD, and the DC love it. The only problem is the language is from a more innocent time. Trust me, you don't want your toddler running about the supermarket shouting "It's bonking time!" Blush

titwillow Grin at "it's bonking time!" I'd forgotten that!

Off to Amazon to get the DVD, we might have the video but no longer anything to play it on, just can't bring myself to throw it out!

The Shoe People was great had forgotten about that one too.

Anyone else used to love Tales from the Riverbank?

My husband's sister's husband's sister (!) used to present Let's Pretend! I used to love it when I was little.

My all time favourite from my childhood was Bod - anyone else remember him (her?)??

I love Nanny Plum. She's the power behind the throne and close relation of Miss Rabbit, the Richard Branson of Peppa Pig land.

Love Abney and Teal, DD got the dolls for her birthday and not just so I could play with them

But. Special agent Oso needs putting down. Permanently. Plush fucker gives me the rage.

I hate GiMP, it appears to have been written by someone elderly, or at least completely out of touch with modern reality. In what universe do today's kids just want to play with wooden aeroplanes, kites, balls and listen to the wireless? It's like they're saying, this was a better time, you're all wrong and ungrateful for wanting more exciting toys, or watching the tv.

Grandpa is seriously unpleasant, manipulative and weird. He always wants to take people down a peg or two, I remember one episode where he berated a teenager for basically being a teenager, (specifically because he was napping on the sofa - which apparently is a big problem) and said they needed to "fix him" Hmm
