Very worried about ds2 aged 4 -posting here for traffic

Ds2 started 5 mornings at pre school in August and since then has been pretty much constantly ill since.
I know this can be normal, but he really is having a bad time of it...
He started back in April,and within 2 weeks had contracted hand, foot and mouth.
Then he got such a bad chest infection he ended up in hospital on nebs and 2 lots of ABs
He has had a cold/cough since he went back and on weds was very sick (very unlike him)
He was also complaining of sore limbs, and his feet were icy cold so took him to gp on thurs and the gp found a heart murmur.
Got to go back and see gp on thurs but since thurs he has had really bad nights and temps.
Last night he was awake hourly
Temp of over 38 degrees.
Crying, almost delirious talking about spiders etc....
Am thinking I should take him back to oogp...am I being silly?
Or should I wait til go opens tomorrow morning?
Any advice gratefully recieved, thanks.

High temp & delirious - I'd go to A&E. Go now, there won't be a big queue at this time of the morning & children are often seen first anyway.

I would give him Paracetamol and wait an hour or two, to see of that helps. If not then I would phone nhs 24 and see what they say (if in uk)

IIWY I'd call nhs direct. It will put your mind at rest or they can route you through the ooh services locally

call NHS 24, and see what a nurse advises? You'll know best whether the spider talk is normal imagination, sleep, etc for him or not.

At A&E you'll see a paediatrician, that is what you need, not a generalist GP. Go to A&E. Certainly don't bother with the ever useless NHS Direct.

I usually would say NHS direct, but honestly in this case I would be at a&e.

I will talk to dh and see what he thinks...he has woken up now and apart from a racing heart seems fine....

Ibuprofen brings a temp down faster and better than paracetamol. But if delusions are happening, I'd call a doc. There's a (small) risk of febrile convulsions which my ds used to have, and that's Scarey.

My dh is a GP, and no matter what or when, he never minds seeing a child when parents are concerned about the child. Trust your instincts!

Oh forgot to mention odd spots he has had for the past 3 weeks!Gp aware of them, thought it was cp but it wasn't.
Also I think his heart rate is far too fast....oh fuck

All I ever get from NHS Direct is " If you're worried go to the hospital" Not very helpful in my personal experience.

Yes, but there can be issues with ibuprofen with fever so without knowing a child or having a more in depth conversation I personally would only suggest paracetamol. I'm sure it would be fine though.

If you are worried about his heart rate too, I would be going to a&e.

Don't panic about the heart murmur - a lot of small children develop one temporarily during a fever because the heart rate goes up & the blood sloshes a bit more & can be heard - most likely it will go away once he is well.

Poor thing, good luck at the out of hours doctor.

Write down all the symptoms so you don't forget any of them.
