OMG!!! I am more in shock that this in my old home town where I grew up!! Which is really the last place in the world that you would expect to get a naturist swimming session...

I assume the children are

a) cannibals
b) naked themselves under their clothing (and know this?)

Hilarious! I live near here and squeakytoy is right - you wouldn't expect a naturist swimming session here. In fact, I'm thinking of booking the dds' swimming lessons here. I fail to see why the glimpse of a naked men would be so horrifying.

Er...why? Unless they were doing handstands in the shallow end I bet they wouldn't have known if the staff hadn't told them. And also of course, naked bodies are not offensive!

Firstly, I would not have been happy if my child had been at the party, secondly I wouldn't want to see naked men wandering round while I was eating, and thirdly we don't allow people to walk around the streets naked for a reason and this is no different. I have no problem with people who want to be naked in their own space or in allocated areas (eg nudist beaches) which are publicised but not around children.

I havent been to that pool for a long time, but had all my childhood swimming lessons there for many years as well as swam for the town team. The entire pool is surrounded by huge windows at ground level so there must have been a lot of bin bags and paper used to block it all out.

It really is a typical working class (without much work these days) Northern town, and the blokes in the area are the absolute last people you would imagine going for a naked frolic in a pool.

If my old mum was alive I can just imagine the frothing that her and her mates would have done on hearing about this.. I might have to ring my auntie now to see if she has heard about it. It is probably the biggest scandal to hit the town in the last twenty years!

Ithink I wouldn't have had a problem with it although I can't promise I wouldn't have had a juvenile snigger behind my hands!

My children are completely unfazed by nudity and I don't think they were actually walking through the eating area naked, so the most you would have seen would be when they got out the pool to go to the changies!

I've never been to a naturist swimming session although our local outdoor pool does do a naked swim party every year, but I'm assuming that it'd consist of people swimming without their clothes on. Not re-enacting a Roman orgy.

I'm also nearby - the local paper's signboard outside our newsagents yesterday read 'Nudist Swim Fury at Boy's Party', which makes it sound either as though the nudists were furious at the child's party or that nudists were swimming furiously at the party. Either way, it's been a good topic of local gossip!

Some people are uncomfortable with publically viewable nudity. And that's ok. There is no fixed line in the sand that says you must toe a party line and be laid back about fluffy bits out and about in a context where you would normally expect them to be covered up.

Lots of kids are not used to public nudity and may well be more interested in peering betwee the cracks in the bin bags than the party. Leading to disappointment of the parents who were looking forward to them enjoying what was laid on for them, rather than dealing with sniggering and willy jokes ad infinitum for two hours.

Naturist generally do not enjoy being a spectator sport and children are unlikely to be the most subtle or diplomatic commentators/viewers.

Nothing wrong with the swimming session, not even anything wrong with having a birthday party at the same time. But really poor preperation from the swimming pool management for not having adequate and suitable screening in place bearing in mind that the privacy (from both swimmers and party goers POVs) aspect should have come up during planning.

Not everybody is on the same page re nudity so a little extra sensitivity is called for when managing access to facilities to groups that may have a different perspective.

I bet the parental hysteria drew far more attention to it. Children aren't interested in old men bathing and probably wouldn't give them a second glance when there are burgers and chips in front of them.
