It wouldn't have been a 'disaster' if the children had looked down on the swimming pool below and seen a few naked bodies pottering about?

Oh and also, why were the kids 'eating members of a naturist group'...or was the comma just unfortunately placed? Grin

Don't panic, it's not the Daily Fail

What were the naturists supposed to do? Its too bloody cold up here to go swimming outdoors, especially in the nude :) (not a million miles from Radcliffe myself)
There is nothing sexual or disgusting about a bunch of blokes swimming with their willies out possibly slightly amusing though it's attitudes like that that make children ashamed of their own bodies.
I'd love to see one of these parents reacting to a real disaster...

WilsonFrickett · 25/09/2012 10:47

That headline is brilliant Chelvis

I can just imagine my DS:
DS: I can see that man's bum.
Me: So you can. Do you want some cake?
DS: Caaaaaake......

I don't think that would qualify as a disaster, must check my handbook....

Ithinkitsjustme · 25/09/2012 10:48

Well said SuoceraBlues

squeakytoy · 25/09/2012 10:50

I would go so far to say, most kids in that town see much worse as they wander through the market square, as that is normally quite busy at most times of day with drunken bums sat there swigging their cans of cider and swearing at each other.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 25/09/2012 10:50

I would have laughed and then taken photos in my phone

WorraLiberty · 25/09/2012 10:51

Why is this all about willies and naked men? It was a mixed swimming session I think?

It's definitely something the kids will be sniggering about for years to come isn't it? Grin

amck5700 · 25/09/2012 10:51

The phrase that did it for me was "Parents who attended the party say that they had to stand in-between cracks" !!!!

Pandemoniaa · 25/09/2012 10:52

The phrase that did it for me was "Parents who attended the party say that they had to stand in-between cracks" !!!!

That must have been a bummer for them.

SuoceraBlues · 25/09/2012 10:53

I bet the parental hysteria drew far more attention to it. Children aren't interested in old men bathing and probably wouldn't give them a second glance when there are burgers and chips in front of them

I disagree. One the "hysteria" may be a media creation. I can understand why the parents may not have been best pleased, but having seen my own words twisted beyond recognistion by a local rag, I simply don't trust journos enough to take the tone proffered at face value.

And little boys (and girls) can be absolutly fascinated by nudity. Even if they are used to their parents wandering around in the nod. Add in pre party excitment and "group giggle hysterics" to turn the notch up on sillyness a bit and I think the burgers may have had to practically tap dancing to get equal attention.

BeauNeidel · 25/09/2012 10:54

Ok Suocera, I'll give you that, some people are much more sensitive than I am about public nudity.

But.....seriously how much can you see under the water in a pool? Nothing. A bunch of blokes doing breast stroke round a pool, then (presumably) getting out and heading to the changing rooms means approximately a minute of nudity? As this was a group swim so they all have to get out at the same time?

Papering over the windows was completely insane and only brought attention to the fact.

Evasmum12 · 25/09/2012 10:54

Agreed squeaky, I'm nearby and im suprised there is an underground nudist community in Radcliffe! Who woulda thought! Brilliant overreaction by the parents too!

Lueji · 25/09/2012 10:55

What are the chances that the children would
a) peer down the cracks (nice pun Telegraph), when there was a party going on?
b) notice the swimming men were naked (most likely with large beer belies covering most of it... Grin and considering few swimmers do backstroke for significant periods of time and the men were probably not standing by the side of the pool)?
c) even register that it was odd, considering they are likely to see the same thing in the lockers area?

WorraLiberty · 25/09/2012 10:56

amck5700 Grin

I liked this line...

"Whilst they were eating members of a naturist group..."

What's wrong with cold pizza and chicken nuggets? Shock

Unless the parents though offering naturists on the buffet was more organic?

Flobbadobs · 25/09/2012 10:56

Good point about the mixed group worra any excuse to talk about willies and snigger though isn't it Grin

BrainSurgeon · 25/09/2012 10:56

Dinosaurs I'm so with you on that. I would have been standing inbetween the paper bags but facing the pool! Grin

Why is this all about willies and naked men? It was a mixed swimming session I think?

"the group consisted of about 20 male swimmers"

WorraLiberty · 25/09/2012 11:00

Ahh didn't spot that MrSun Grin

I imagine the kids only went to look through the cracks in the window to find out what the adults were hoiking their bosoms about.

Note to those parents:
Do not take your 7 year old children to the human body section of the Natural History Museum.

Even I was taken slightly aback by the sight of a huge wall with a cross section of a couple during copulation.
Did my 5 year old even notice it? No. Grin

EnjoyGOLDResponsibly · 25/09/2012 11:04

I once spent a wonderful afternoon on a naturist beach in France.

Let me tell you now, there is no funnier sight than trying to watch naked adults trying to get in a rubber dinghy.

Sorry, I digress.

amck5700 · 25/09/2012 11:07

Worra :o

I'd definitely have been a sniggering 7 year old but that would have made my party, not ruined it. I can't imagine that the sight of some mens dangly bits or flabby bottoms would have given me nightmares

On a different note, how come none of us are imagining 20 buffed looking young men? (well, i am now!) I have no problem with nudity per se, i just wish it was practised by a better looking group of people :o

Chelvis · 25/09/2012 11:08

I've added the photo of the local paper to my profile. I too am amazed that there are local nudists, too bloody cold up here surely? Suppose that's why they book in at a warm pool, duh!

SuoceraBlues · 25/09/2012 11:09

how much can you see under the water in a pool?

You can see even less in a river. Yet my eagle eyed (then 8yo) DS spotted a bare bottom, squeaked loudly to gets his mates' attention, and the little sods went on a three child mission to keep tabs in case there was anything else more giggle worthy about to pop out of the water.

Never has pizza been more sucessfully ignored.

And DS has seen us naked since he was born. I think DH may actually be allergic to clothes.

But it was the "out of context" surpise at an age when he and his mates were all prone to rolling around laughing their heads of at any sentence containing bums/willy/boobs.

It wasn't the end of the world, but I find (even small picnic based and not actually party) kid focused stuff stressful at the best of times. I'm not the kind of mum who can pull these things off well with minimal effort, so was not well chuffed to have been thrown a curve ball which made me sweat from the sheer effort of trying to distract them.

Not blaming anybody, the guy wasn't expecting anybody to be there I guess, or just took an improtu dip. But I could have done without it ...had I had any choice in the matter.

I guess the parents at the pool feel they should have been given a choice, and I can't fault them for that. They are customers after all and their experience depended on the swimming pool demonstrating a little quality forward planning. Which they didn't achieve.

IF the parents had had adequate screening but still complained on principle, then I'd say that was OTT. But that wasn't the case and I can see how it could have impacted the kids behavoir and the parents enjoyment/relaxation levels at the party.
