It's the small galleries that do my head in. I love the beach and the fields and the forests but the galleries. Dear me no. I spent a wet weekend in Dorset last year. Okayish but we ended up in the local gallery to kill an afternoon. My children were flumoxed. They're used to Tate Modern and the National Gallery and there they got four Roman coins and some photos of people who used to be in service at the Big House.

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 21:43

where you live proud?

Are the schools free?

Cotswolds

Jeremy Clarkson

The end

TheGoldenKnid · 23/09/2012 21:45

Ah, that explains it. You live in the wrong sort of country. And clearly too close to Jeremy Clarkson.

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 21:45

No I didn't go to the cinema ever everyday

BUT I COULD HAVE DONE

OP posts:
Hullygully · 23/09/2012 21:45

If you insist on being so sneery about your neighbours I'm not surprised you are fed up. Few people enjoy the company of those who feel themselves superior to them.

halloweeneyqueeney · 23/09/2012 21:46

the southbank is one of the best walks ever! its absolutely brilliant aroudn thr and the posibilities are endless, it's always different, fields are always samey! when you go for a walk in the country you know what you are going to pass and where you will end up, which after living in london, seems almost pointless!

nkf · 23/09/2012 21:46

But also, it's not just you can go to the cinema every day. It's that you can go to all different kinds of cinemas.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 23/09/2012 21:46

Clarkson, fucking CAMERON and that gimp from. Blur who makes cheese.

It is the cuntry-side.

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 21:47

I don't think I'm superior Karlos, just different.

As I said before, it's me that's the odd one out.

Most people who are well off who live in the Cotswolds have a house or a job in London as well. That tells you everything you need to know about idylic country life. Rich people don't work there or live there all the time - they escape to London.

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 21:49

AND everyone drinks and drives in the cuntry cos it's that or no life.

So we can't even share picking up the dc from parties cos we can hardly say er, you won't be pissed, will you?

OP posts:
TheGoldenKnid · 23/09/2012 21:49

Anyway, you're wrong. It's lovely in the country. Right now - lovely fire going, listening to the rain outside, listening to owls sometimes, can't hear any cars or people. Bliss.

halloweeneyqueeney · 23/09/2012 21:49

think the OPs point is, that in the countryside you can be the odd one out.. because there's not the variety, if everyone in a place is into the same things then its not like you can just find other people who like doing what you like doing from thin air!

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 21:49

I USED TO LIVE IN PIMLICO

IvorHughJanus · 23/09/2012 21:50

GetOrf OH MY GOD I fucking HATE Bourton On The WAter, went there a couple of months ago for a weekend, awful dreadful twee false shite of a place, total waste of money. Dreadful. Am still writing terrible Trip Advisor reviews about everything we went to/ate at/saw/slept in. Hated it. Cotswolds suck.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 23/09/2012 21:50

I work in London.

I am sick of that train.

I am a miserable fucker I know, but I am BITTER at 6 years of living in Gloucestershire I have never once met Rupert Campbell Black.

maristella · 23/09/2012 21:50

YANBU, the countryside is really wank, especially on a rainy day. Even more so when you get snowed in.

I miss the anonimity of city life! Especially after getting a bit drunk in the pub in the next village this weekend. Then I had to do a torchlit death walk home by rivers, through fields, barbed wire etc. Crap!! My village gets an extra crapness award for having no pub or shop of its own.

Oh and try getting a takeaway delivered to soothe your hungover self! Impossibility!

I'm stuck until DS leaves school. I might wait until he goes to uni and follow him Grin

TheGoldenKnid · 23/09/2012 21:51

I admit I am a bit odd, but so is almost everybody else here. Even I don't stand out much. Grin

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 23/09/2012 21:51

Oh God Hully, you are freaking me the hell out. We are about to leave London because we can't afford a family house here. We're going to another city though - just a small one. I'll be ok won't I?

I feel your pain. I grew up in arse end of nowhere. There was much drinking cider in fields amongst the teenage contingent.

nkf · 23/09/2012 21:51

I would love to live in Pimlico. I feel for you, HG. But it's only a matter of months. Where will you move to?

everybodywalkthedinosaur · 23/09/2012 21:52

There's about 10 houses in my hamlet, and that's a generous guess. That's it. No shop or school within walking distance, a sporadic 'regular' bus service (timetables are for losers), no pavements, no streetlights but there is a recluse! 18 months ago I spotted his disappearing back as he rushed back into his overgrown house. That was exciting.

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 21:52

Another city will be fine, you'lllaugh. So long as it has cinemas etc.

be warned.

vair interesting this thread
I get the pity looks from people when I say we live in London Confused
but it's 24/7 entertainment, all life is here really, an education in itself alright good and bad!

interesting too about the countryside drug dealers, they were pretty thin on the ground when I was growing up in purgatory the countryside, might have stayed otherwise Grin
dont get me wrong it's nice for a visit but when I see the bright lights and feel the zing I know I'm home
