Kissing on the lips

Suzietastic · 15/09/2012 09:54

I had a friend over last night, she's lovely, we get on really well but something she said bothered me a bit. When my 8 year old DD went to bed she came and gave me a kiss and it was on the lips. I didn't really give it a lot of thought but my friend suggested that kissing her on the lips was maybe something I should stop doing 'because of her age'.

Is it?

Don't be ridiculous

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 15/09/2012 09:56

Bizarre comment for her to make

Suzietastic · 15/09/2012 09:57

Exactly what I thought. I've never even considered it before.

No. I love it when my ds and dd give me a big smacker on the lips. My own family was not so demonstrative but fortunatley i grew up with a lovely lip kissing bear hugging family and they still do it now from time to time - and the ds's are huge strapping lads!

shrimponastick · 15/09/2012 10:02

Some folks kiss on the lips, some don't. Each to their own.

I don't kiss anyone other than DH on the lips. It's a smacker on the cheek for DS and other family, and friends. Some of my friends' small children kiss me goodbye , on the lips. I don't comment -it isn't my business

PrincessScrumpy · 15/09/2012 10:17

still kiss my parents on the lips and I'm 30.

I know the time will come when dd won't want to kiss me infront of her friends but I will deal with that when it happens.

AnyFucker · 15/09/2012 10:20

Your friend is strange

bulletwithbutterflywings · 15/09/2012 10:22

Your friend is very odd.

OhChristFENTON · 15/09/2012 10:27

It's not something I'm particularly keen on - the children's kisses are slobbery enough when received on the cheek as it is, thank you, - but each to their own, and all and I wouldn't dream of telling anyone that they should stop because of a child's age Confused

Yes, your friend is a lot odd.

MyLastDuchess · 15/09/2012 10:33

I can't imagine being at a friend's house and passing comment on something like that. I think your friend was being incredibly rude, and she should keep her hangups to herself.

I don't kiss my parents on the lips, but I also don't think that I am the arbiter of all appropriate behaviour.

I don't understand this constant sexualising of perfectly innocent parent-child interactions.

OvO · 15/09/2012 10:36

I'm 31 and still kiss my parents on the lips.

Your friend is odd. Fair enough not to like it done to you but no need to comment on others doing it.

Suzietastic · 15/09/2012 10:39

Cheers for that. It made me feel really icky. You know how sometimes you know you are in the right but need it reinforced? That.

I was never kissed my parents on the lips but my DCs insist on it! They pucker up and stay that way until I agree to kiss them! Strange thing for your friend to comment on.

I mean..it's not like you were using tongues or something...Hmm

squeakytoy · 15/09/2012 10:42

Unless you were using tongues as well, then what on earth is the issue. And as I am damn sure you werent, then making a comment is just weird.

Suzietastic · 15/09/2012 10:43

Haha nope, I can barely bring myself to use tongues with my DH!

This is how incest starts.

Nagoo · 15/09/2012 11:21

I kiss my granny on the lips. She is 86 :)

ColumboIsMyHero · 15/09/2012 11:26

What in the what now?

I kiss my parents and aunts/uncles on the lips. I'm 37. I've never been at risk of incest. Because they are not sex-offenders.

Kisses can be perfectly charming expressions of (non-sexual) love. Of course if someone doesn't want to kiss on the lips (or the cheek or isn't cuddly etc etc) they shouldn't be made to! But honestly...

PowerDresser · 15/09/2012 11:33

I've no objection to be being kissed on the lips by friends but there's always the possibility of catching 'something' isn't there?

MadamFolly · 15/09/2012 13:34

I know there is nothing wrong with kissing on the lips but I don't like seeing it. I try to avoid kissing DP on the lips if I can avoid it, going for his nose or cheeks instead. I'm not very touchy feely, I have hugged my Dad once since I hit puberty and hated it even though I love him.

I know that I'm unreasonable though so would never comment.

SirGOLDBoobs · 15/09/2012 13:54

Your friend is odd.

Next time you see her, give her a full blown snog.

DeathCab · 15/09/2012 14:07

I kiss my Dsis (9) on the lips everytime I see her.

People are ignorant!

Elizabeth267 · 15/09/2012 14:56

To think that if you say you'll come to a Christening you'll actually come not let me know a few days before, or the day before that you can't come? Really feel some people letting my son down and really sad about it. I do get that kids get ill or family emergency but really feel people are finding something better to instead! One person decided to go away with his parents!?!?!

Elizabeth267 · 15/09/2012 14:57

Oops sorry I'm new to forums. Ignore me. I'm n idiot x
