To think prince Harry is being selfish

Saw this on the news today www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19516079
I'm sorry but telling the world where the prince is fighting and when he is there puts all his team in more danger.
I understand he wants to go and fight but seriously, I think it's very selfish to put his wants before that of his team.

He didn't actually phone up the news papers and stations and tell them himself so I don't think he's selfish at all. It shouldn't be made public information where he and his team are going and when but that's nothing to do with him!

itsjustmeanon · 07/09/2012 17:05

I didn't know why they couldn't just keep it hushed up, like last time. Obviously wanted the good publicity. I don't think it's Harry that's being selfish, but the PR advisers.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 07/09/2012 17:05

Damned if he does. Damned if he doesn't.

Nothing much else you can add to that.

lisad123 · 07/09/2012 17:06

True he didn't tell them, someone has, and in all honesty he should be there at all imo

I also hardly think that they weren't previously targets.

midori1999 · 07/09/2012 17:07

He's just trying to do his job. It's a pity the media think all and sundry should know.

What is worse is that all comms were cut from Afghan until the media had announced it, which means servicemen and women couldn't contact their families. Sad

None of that is Prince Harry's fault though.

griphook · 07/09/2012 17:07

I reckon he's been and come back, and the nude pics were just a diversion

TapirBackRider · 07/09/2012 17:09

Failing to see in that article where he has selfishly demanded that the press be informed of his whereabouts?

He's wanting to go and do his job, which the army has spent a lot of money training him for; if he didn't go, then he would be accused of being selfish and cowardly....can't really win, can he?

EdithWeston · 07/09/2012 17:09

They couldn't keep it hushed up, for even though the British press behaved with commendable restraint last time, there is no influencing the media elsewhere, or the Internet.

The security arrangements will have been planned in detail, and - as was said at the time of his last withdrawal - he will not go or remain in theatre should the risks (to himself, or to others who might be mistaken for him) become unmanageable.

HellonHeels · 07/09/2012 17:13

I thought service personnel went where they were told. Do they actually get to pick and choose? How can he be 'selfish' to follow orders and go where he's posted?

Petsinmypudenda · 07/09/2012 17:17

He really cant do anything right can he?

He goes to a party and he is called a feckless layabout.
He does his job and he is called selfish.
His team will know the risks, the army is a dangerous job, they know what to expect

MarysBeard · 07/09/2012 17:18

I would say the selfish ones are the stupid hacks who reported it. Prince Harry is great.

RuleBritannia · 07/09/2012 17:21

Why should he be protected by keeping him in the UK? Prince Harry has been trained at expense to be a soldier. So he should be a soldier where it matters - like others - and he wants to go because he doesn't want to be treated differently or so I've read. Those who already go to Afghanistan are not protected except by their training etc.

I don't like to say it really but if anything were to happen to him, those further down the line would simply move up one and the one to take his place would be Prince Andrew (at the moment).

Just wish him luck - as we wish luck to all the others.

ajandjjmum · 07/09/2012 17:22

Not only has a fortune been spent on training him (and other) Apache pilots, he is apparently extremely talented. Good for him! And good wishes to him and everyone else serving our country.

ColouringIn · 07/09/2012 17:23

Prince Harry IS great. My brother ran the army base he was sent to for a while and said he was down to earth, friendly and easy to get o. With, he was very well liked by everyone who came into contact with.

ginmakesitallok · 07/09/2012 17:24

{wonders how Afghanistan can be made more dangerous...}

fivegomadindorset · 07/09/2012 17:25

So we know he has gone, what we won't know as no one does is where he will be, when he is out on ops etc. Good for him, he is after all a serving member of the armed forces.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 07/09/2012 17:25

He should be there, it's his job, and the army spent a huge amount of money training him to do it.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 07/09/2012 17:27

ginmakesitallok

Precisely. My son is going out there soon, and will be in danger whether Harry is there or not.

Petsinmypudenda · 07/09/2012 17:28

{wonders how Afghanistan can be made more dangerous...}

indeed!

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 07/09/2012 17:30

Selfish if he's a feckless jet-setter, selfish if he goes to work. Poor bugger.

The army has always been a career choice for Royals and he seems to be very well liked among his colleagues.

He doesn't get to decree where and when he's posted, and he made it clear that he was not interested in training to be an Apache pilot unless the army were going to deploy him; training is expensive and if they weren't prepared to send him he would have been taking up the place of someone who could be deployed.

It's not going to look too good for the army or the government if they manage to get him killed so I reckon they will have done their risk assessments pretty thoroughly and if they choose to send him then good for them.

ZiaMaria · 07/09/2012 17:31

He's in the army and doing his job. His job is dangerous, especially for him as capturing him would be a coup for the Taliban. He is very very brave.

We can't keep him in a glass box. He wants to serve in the army and the army accepted him. It is up to them.

GhostShip · 07/09/2012 17:35

He can't bloody win can he?!

People whinge about royals sitting and doing nothing, and then complain when they're doing something for us!

They're ALL at risk anyway. Every one of them. We should be proud that one of our royals is putting his life on the line for his country.

BlingBubbles · 07/09/2012 17:36

Definitely don't think he is being selfish, he wants to go and fight with the people he trained with, can you imagine of he didn't go people would say how he gets special treatment of not going to war etc.

Heard on the news earlier that he graduated Top Gun out of his class, so he must be super good Grin

EdithWeston · 07/09/2012 17:36

"It's a pity the media think all and sundry should know".

They are only reporting an MoD official announcement!
