Ours is.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 12/08/2012 21:32

My mum's dad was a fishmonger and had a chippy too, they were always closed Sunday and Monday. No fisherman would ever sail on a Sunday, far too superstitious and religious for that, no fishing on Sunday meant no catch for the markets on Monday morning so no fish for sale.

ILiveInAPineapple · 12/08/2012 21:33

What's worse is when you sit downwith the chinese menu to plan what feast you will be ordering, dial the restaurant to order the take away you are going to have with a lovely bottle of wine, and after it just keeps ringing, you realise it's Tuesday and it's closed. There is nothing that can replace Chinese food, at least you can get chips somewhere else Grin

noteventhebestdrummer · 12/08/2012 21:40

Ours are all open and the neighbouring up-itself suburb has a chippy that does gluten free on a Sunday night :)

ours is open every night

BackforGood · 12/08/2012 23:58

Traditionally people always have had a big Sunday dinner, so then wouldn't be ordering another full meal in on a Sunday night - you'd have a sarnie, or afternnon tea, not a cooked meal. Makes sense then to have that night off.
A huge % of chippies are family owned and run, so it's not unreasonable to think they should take one day a week off.

CointreauVersial · 13/08/2012 00:00

Ours is open Sunday, but closes another day (Tuesday, I think).

Babyroobs · 13/08/2012 00:54

Ours has just started opening on a sunday evening.

LordOfThe5Rings · 13/08/2012 00:58

Open Sunday til 4pm (weird)

methsdrinker · 13/08/2012 01:03

Ilive in a pineapple
I am so with out on that chinese thing .Why is it they close on a Tuesday. Why is it that I always want a Chinese on a Tuesday. I shoudl ask next time I'm in

methsdrinker · 13/08/2012 01:03

brighthair · 13/08/2012 01:06

Ours is Grin and it also opens until stupid hours on a weekend. Nothing like scraps, chips and curry sauce at 4am GrinBlush

Kabooooom · 13/08/2012 01:08

Isn't Tuesday their Sundays? Day of rest etc? I'm sure that's what I have been told at some point...

My Chippy used to open on Sundays, then stopped. And now shut at 9pm rather than the usual 11.30pm so I now can't stop off on the way back from the pub on the odd occasion I get to go [cries]

They don't even sell Gravy anymore Shock

CatholicDad · 13/08/2012 01:08

Chinese with wine?! Shock

SoleSource · 13/08/2012 01:13

Chinese food makes,me feel sick. I love Indian take away on a Sunday night simetimes.

Debeez · 13/08/2012 01:22

Damn it I want chips now. There is not a whiff of a decent chippy round here. We have a dominos instead. Nice pizza, doesn't beat fish, chips and scrunchins though!

methsdrinker · 13/08/2012 01:26

my dd (6)won't let me buy dominos as she is horrifird that they make their staff stand on street corners wearing a domino pizza billboard sign thing.
fair play to her. I am soooooo proud

Nagoo · 13/08/2012 01:26

If you are proper you would cook a proper roast at lunchtime then you would only need a cheese sandwich or something for tea.

That's why the chip shop is shut.

confusedpixie · 13/08/2012 01:29

YANBU. DP and I had this dilemma earlier!

dottyspotty2 · 13/08/2012 01:31

Our ones are open until 11/12 Nagoo not everyone does a roast on sundays you could be out all day and not want to cook or back off holiday.

dottyspotty2 · 13/08/2012 01:32

We also have a chinese thats open tuesdays Grin

Kabooooom · 13/08/2012 01:42

I love my Sunday Roasts. I plan things around my Sunday Roasts. I will happily stay out, if there is a place where I can get a Roast Dinner. Or visit someone, if they are doing a Roast. Sunday just isn't Sunday to me without one. I look forward all week to my Sundays.

Needs to get a life

But, I can forgive someone having a Curry. Or Spag Bol. Or a BBQ. Just puuurrrllleeeeaaaasssee, no chips. Chips on a Sunday should be banished. And Pizza. Those are weekday foods.

Again, needs to get a life

tartyflette · 13/08/2012 01:52

All takeaways, of whatever persuasion, should be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to cope with midnight or 3a.m. munchies. They can have Christmas day off if they absolutely must.
(But what about the poor sods who have to work over Christmas, eh, eh?????)
And some people have to work Sundays too so they can't do the full Sunday Lunch Roast either.

lovebunny · 13/08/2012 02:50

local chinese closes tuesday. don't know why. assumed it was because it was a slow night.
