Just watching fantastic Olympics, finally on the althletics.

DH just pointed out to me that the presenters, people chatting after the race have different coloured microphones according to skin colour

Michael Johnson for example had a lovely brown one, whilst Seb Coe had a bright cream one!

Not liking that at all. Find it difficult to understand why the Beeb think that's a good plan-it's not as if they actually blend in and become invisible!

They're supposed to blend in. I am aware that they don't, but I think you're over thinking it

I noticed that on day 1! It doesn't quite work out well for gary linekar though. They obviously don't have a mic in orange.

I'm trying to work out why you think the brown one was 'lovely'?

Basically the idea isn't so much to blend them in as they'd have to make totally individual ones for that....it's more so that it doesn't stand out too much and become a distraction to the viewer.

Though I find them a distraction because I keep thinking they have massive boils/skin tags on their faces.

They would be ore obvious if they were red or blue or yellow.

Wheremymilk - Yes, its obvious there are different colours, But its just so they dont stand out.. sort of like a black woman will choose a different shade of blusher to a white woman.. Does that make sense?

We noticed that on the first day. Don't dislike it but can't help wonder why, if they wanted them to be inconspicuous, did they not just use the little mics that attach to the lapel?

As someone else said, if black people were given white/peach ones people would quite rightly question that.

Why is this a problem? If they want the mikes to blend in, it's logical?

Personally I have always wondered why "skin-coloured" plasters are always beige, and think they should do brown ones to blend in with black skin. Seems odd that manufacturers might think white people would want a more discreet plaster and then forget about black people.

wasn't there a thread here a while ago suggesting that elastoplast was racist because it only comes in a colour that resembles caucasian skin? I think those mics look ridiculous either way, they should just be black like normal mics.
