Just watching fantastic Olympics, finally on the althletics.

DH just pointed out to me that the presenters, people chatting after the race have different coloured microphones according to skin colour Shock

Michael Johnson for example had a lovely brown one, whilst Seb Coe had a bright cream one!

Not liking that at all. Find it difficult to understand why the Beeb think that's a good plan-it's not as if they actually blend in and become invisible!

Op Michael Johnson has a lovely brown one!!!!! Is that a joke??

WhereMyMilk · 03/08/2012 22:27

Lurched, we have Mr Bump plasters here if that helps! :o

I thought they were boils. It took me a moment, I think they're very ugly looking and I think they stand out more than any other mic I've ever seen

WhereMyMilk · 03/08/2012 22:28

the body, as explained above, was a sarcastic aside...

I noticed that on the first day as well. However, as someone else has said, it is just so that they dont really stand out.

I dont really understand your problem with it - Michael Johnson has darker skin therefore his microphone is darker so that it blends a bit better.

Surely it would have been worse if they had had a 'one size fits all' microphone in a caucasian skin tone?

doublevodkaandcoke · 03/08/2012 22:31

Now I am thinking about Michael Johnson's 'lovely brown one' and Lord Coe's 'bright cream one' Grin

WhereMyMilk · 03/08/2012 22:32

Now you're just being rude, Double :o

Oh god yes just enjoying the thought, no criticism op,, thank you for my theme dream tonight!!!!

WandaDoff · 03/08/2012 22:38

We have Peppa pig plasters, they are bright & garish on any skintone Smile

Surely if the presenters are willingly wearing the mics then there isn't a problem?

MadgeHarvey · 03/08/2012 22:41

What the frig? You have got too little going on in your head OP if you've got room for crud like this.

Krumbum · 03/08/2012 23:00

I noticed that. It's quite funny really. The 'white' ones are such a ludicrous colour that nobody is. Why don't that just use one colour! They don't blend in at all.

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2012 23:03

I don't know why they don't use those mics with no foam on the end at all...they just look like bendy wire?

I guess the foam must help somehow.

quoteunquote · 03/08/2012 23:04

OP, we have been laughing at them all week, they are been mentioned everywhere,

they are quite silly, when certain camera angles are used unfortunate presenters look like they have a huge boil about to burst,

the idea has not worked, but yet they plough on regardless.

CrapBag · 03/08/2012 23:08

Its not something I have noticed at all and now I am going to be looking at all the bloody microphones now, thanks OP. Wink

Like the fact that someones DC thought it was a contagious boil.

WhereMyMilk · 03/08/2012 23:21

Like thebody's idea of a theme dream. Micheal Johnson, yum! Just as long as he doesn't talk:o

OP posts:
Mrsjay · 03/08/2012 23:25

omg that made me Grin they are supposed to blend in with skin tone thats all

rainydaysarebad · 04/08/2012 07:01

I think the foam acts as a buffer to unwanted white noise.

bigkidsdidit · 04/08/2012 07:15

These aren't new you know

I remember hinking Jonathan Edwards had a boil ages ago Grin

SoleSource · 04/08/2012 08:22

Microphone racism is still a taboo subject.

DeathMetalMum · 04/08/2012 08:40

Yes as a regular athletics watcher (and any sport) the bbc have bee using theese for ages. I imagine that they dont puck up as much background noise as the smaller lepel mics also obviously have the benifit of being closer to the mouth. Down to the colour well I guess that is the presenter/pundits choice. No biggie really.
