You know, the instant mashed potato?

Go for it.

trixymalixy · 02/08/2012 23:51

No, smash is vile. Mr Mash is much much nicer if you can find it Grin

GeorgianMumto5 · 02/08/2012 23:52

Do it! Do it! Do it!

MildewMayhew · 02/08/2012 23:52

YABU

Unless it's the one in the green pack. And you add plenty of butter.

WorraLiberty · 02/08/2012 23:53

My DH loves Smash

He is a fucking heathen

That is all

clemetteattlee · 02/08/2012 23:54

It is delicious if you use the dry powder as a topping/coating for fish...

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 02/08/2012 23:55

I admit to being a Smash virgin, but I am tempted to try it for week days when I am childminding and peeling, boiling and mashing potatoes just does not fit into the zillion other things I have to do.

I promise to read the ingredients list AND try it myself before foisting it upon my minded children.

I love Smash, like really love it.

With Bisto gravy granules mmmmmm

and Aunt Bessie's yorkshire puds.

noisytoys · 03/08/2012 00:02

Aunt Bessie's frozen mash is the best

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2012 00:03

Seriously, peeling a few potatoes and mashing them when boiled can't be that big a deal can it?

StuntGirl · 03/08/2012 00:03

Do it. Just add loads of butter Grin

Nigella says it can be used in place of potato water when making home baked bread [nods sagely]

ilovesooty · 03/08/2012 00:05

I love Smash. I used to have it on my birthday as a special treat when I was a child, with tinned mince and tinned butterbeans. It's still my ultimate comfort dinner.

A close runner up is Smash, fish fingers, peas and parsley sauce. I liquidised it and lived on it for a week after I had my wisdom teeth out.

CouldItBeTrue · 03/08/2012 00:07

Worra trust me, it can be when you get home from work/school run and then realise you have left the house keys in your desk and have to go back to retrieve them with DC in tow.

Not a massive issue.

Unless the round trip consists of 4 bus journeys, in rush hour.

THEN boiling/mashing is a huge pain in the arse when you just need food!

Smash - go to 'quick' food for me and mine.

HarrietSchulenberg · 03/08/2012 00:07

Euughghghg. Seriously. If you've not got time to peel the potatoes, just give 'em a quick scrub and mash 'em with the skins on.
Smash is disgusting and it looks like dried sick.

CouldItBeTrue · 03/08/2012 00:08

(oh and when DC is out at a friend's for tea and I can't be arsed making myself anything to eat....THEN Smash is my pal Grin )

Akermanis · 03/08/2012 00:08

I love Tescos frozen mash, much nicer than Smash imo

CouldItBeTrue · 03/08/2012 00:08

No way, Smash is yummy.

It is just potato after all?

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2012 00:09

Nah fuck that

If you don't have time to peel potatoes...make it a pasta night.

But don't subject anyone to the vile shit known as Smash Grin

MarygoeZforgold · 03/08/2012 00:13

It's fine if you use about a third milk with the water, and mix in melted butter.

Otherwise it's shite.

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2012 00:14

But it's got no bite to it

The texture resembles baby food and not proper mash at all Confused

Plus the taste is foul...

BustleInYourHedgerow · 03/08/2012 00:15

Use cous cous instead of potatoes. DS love it with tomato and lentil soup, and chicken, sweetcorn and peas with parsley sauce. When I used to look after a lot of children I'd sit down on sunday night in front of telly, peel lots of potatoes, then mash and boil. Can be used the next day and then frozen and heated in the microwave.

MarygoeZforgold · 03/08/2012 00:16

I like baby food Blush. I used to eat the jars of orange pudding when I was pregnant with ds2. Though Milupa Sunshine Orange Breakfast was my favourite - which had about the consistency of Smash.

firawla · 03/08/2012 00:17

yanbu smash is not tooo bad

but there are some different flavour powder mash pot things you can get from asda, if you ever feel tempted to try those then don't they are probably the rankest food I have ever seen!!! and they smell absolutely gross. for some reason i thought it would be handy to buy it as a snack, but it is truly disgusting

ant bessies frozen mash is really nice though

CouldItBeTrue · 03/08/2012 00:18

But Worra, what if your my main staple food is pasta and you really fancied mash and had been daydreaming about it.

I won't be swayed. I heart Smash.

I think MN may need another sub section. Smash vs Mash. Wink
