To leave negative feedback on eBay about a stinky chair?

I bought a rocking chair on eBay. I stupidly didn't think to check if they had written from smoke & pet free home. I've got it home & it stinks! I'm do disappointed as I am 38 weeks & was planning to use it for breast feeding.
I've used disinfectant, febreezed it, left it by the window but still smells the same. How else can I get the smell out? Has anyone managed to banish smoke smells from upholstery ( it is faux leather).

Disinfectant and Febreeze will probably be worse for the baby than a bit of a smoky smell.

Well before you leave negative feed back, check as if it didn't say smoke free,you can't really complain,

have you tried leaving it covered in bicarbonate of soda for 24hr, then hoovering it off, repeat until the odour goes.

if it was me, i wouldn't leave a neg, but would mention in my feedback that i wished i'd checked it was from a non-smoking home.

as for the smell, you could try washing it down with a white vinegar/hot water solution (equal parts) - add a few drops of essential oil if you have any - then leave it outside during the day for as long as you can.

I am not a big ebay user so I don't know the etiquette but maybe leave a neutral feedback and mention the smell?

I think it's lying by omission to not state that the chair does not come from a smoke free home. For a piece of furniture you can't bung in the wash and you expect to keep in your home that's a pretty important fact.

But only a neutral as you didn't check.

I'd wash it down with vinegar and water and stand it in full sunlight as long as possible and often as I could. It's amazing what full sun can do.
Or go ask a furniture shop if they have a big plastic bag (like mattresses come in) Soak it in water and vinegar and bag it up in the garage/shed and leave it for a few days, then see what it smells like.

It should still be a neg because it shouldn't stink. Filthy gits.

My husband picked it up & I ding think he really thought about it.but as soon as I got it home & sat on it the smell was overwhelming. I have heard that heavy smokers don't notice the smell but as a non smoker I cant use it.

Maybe try something made for neutralizing pet odors?

1 Mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts linseed oil. The vinegar is going to naturally deodorize the leather while the oil conditions it.
2 Swirl a rag in the mixture, wring out and rub over the leather surface.
3 Wipe the leather with a clean rag and allow to air dry as a small bit of the solution will still be left behind.
4 Go over the leather again with a clean rag after it dries to remove traces of the cleaning solution.

Thankyou. I just got some malt vinegar from morrisons. Said it was the same as white on the Internet. I shall mix it with lemon & lavender oil, keep repeating & see how that goes!

I wonder why people worry so much about leaving negative feedback. The chair stinks, leave negative feedback IMO.

You should only leave negative feedback if the item is not as described, if they said it came from a smoke & pet free home then you could complain but as they didn't then no you can't & YABU, you didn't check.

I've not had many problems with ebay and generally the stuff I buy on there has been good.

I just think people should be 'allowed' to leave negative feedback without the rigmarole of the whole complaints system. Some sellers don't replay for days.
It might save someone else buying stinky stuff from the same seller if people weren't made to feel guilty about leaving negative feeback. It isn't a 'neutral' problem. It is a a 'negative' purchase. Maybe it's the wording neutral and negative that is wrong.

yeah I suppose that makes sense IvanaNap but I'm rather 'here and now' and don't have time for following up stuff though. Like I said you often wait days for sellers to reply.
