ive re watched on iplayer.

he wasnt actually that bad. he was actually ok. and the whole world would know "hey jude" and all they had to do was go "na na na nah".......

dh has told me off for being grumpy.
and he was in the Beatles i suppose......(macca not DH....)

His face looks like he stood too near the cauldron....(macca not your DH...)

limitedperiodonly · 28/07/2012 12:26

YABU Why did we have to have one of the greatest musicians of all time on singing one of the best-loved songs in the world?

He only wrote it.

And his voice is a bit shaky now he's 98 and I don't like his hair.

We could have got someone off the X Factor to do a cover version. It's not clever, anyway. Most of it is just na-na-na-na-na-na.

And why was it all on so late? Don't they know the nurses always come round at teatime to give me my medication?

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2012 12:28

The nurses were too busy dancing at the ceremony

They would have been late anyway Grin

OlympyWindowMash · 28/07/2012 12:29

YABU, it was shit.

KatieisScarlettinSpandex · 28/07/2012 12:31

He fluffed the start

He was off key

He was botoxed to hell

His hair plugs, people? Vain, much?

He went on and on and on until he emptied the stadium.

He called us "girls"

He spoiled the otherwise stunning ceremony.

If it was anyone else committing the above crimes against pleasure, Queenie would have been within her rights to put them in the Tower.

TheCrackFox · 28/07/2012 12:31

I think they should have had Adele singing Hey Jude.

Paul McCartney just can't sing anymore. Why does he keep having to inflict his voice on us?

Nanny0gg · 28/07/2012 12:33

What KatieisScarlettinSpandex said.

He was rubbish.
Musicians need to realise that unfortunately the voice changes with age.

And not for the better.

pictish · 28/07/2012 12:35

Yabu. He was awful. It was a catastrophe.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 28/07/2012 12:37

He committed treason.

YABU.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2012 12:38

As far as old British icons go, I would have preferred Elton or Rod.

rainydaysarebad · 28/07/2012 12:38

Sorry...were you watching the same programme? I think so...

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/07/2012 12:38

why macca? really?

cos he was there, in the thick of the musical revolution of the 60's, he is a british icon, he was half of one of the best songwriting duos of all time and in the best band of all time and he wont be around for ever!

dh has made me see the error of my ways. sort of.

i really have watched it again on iplayer btw.....it really was ok. and i can see why macca now.....at least he is the real deal even if he is a bit old and wobbly....i think he did a good job for an old geezer.

or would we have preferred an xfactor wannabe? cheryl cole maybe??

LetsKateWin · 28/07/2012 12:39

Awful. Why do they keep dragging him out?

Nanny0gg · 28/07/2012 12:40

By all means use a Beatles song - but it needed a singer.

Adele would have been perfect. Old and new.

pictish · 28/07/2012 12:41

The Arctic Monkeys did a cracking job of Come Together.

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/07/2012 12:47

see i am the only person in the country to not like that new british institution that is Adele.

i cannot for the life of me see what the fuss is about - i bought the album and gave it away after a couple of listens.

adele would have been a worse cliche.

he wrote the songs, he can still sing, so why not let him sing his own song?

i have changed my mind. i thought he did ok. a bit wobbly at the start but it got better, and id rather him than Elton or Adele.

so neh! Torch
go macca!

limitedperiodonly · 28/07/2012 12:52

Awful. Why do they keep dragging him out?

Absolutely LetsKateWin.

Why did they drag that doddery has-been Muhammad Ali out as well?

HeadfirstForRomance · 28/07/2012 12:54

Well he had the whole stadium singing along so he can't have been that bad :)

HeadfirstForRomance · 28/07/2012 12:54

"Why do they keep dragging him out?"

They got a BOGOF when they booked him for the Jubilee Grin

Totallymum · 28/07/2012 12:57

Exactly what Katie said. He is a pathetic figure and not relevant anymore.

Mayisout · 28/07/2012 12:58

Jeesh you are all so ageist

That's ok here it seems. God forbid that he was an off key black, gay guy on benefits. You'd be falling over with wonder and praise.

myalias · 28/07/2012 13:05

Should have had members of the GB team Torch past and present to sing the na na na's - would have drowned out Macca.

PerryCombover · 28/07/2012 13:07

I thought he was fine.
Saw him at Glastonbury and he was excellent there...the backing was started too soon last night I think?

The point is IMO that we (the nation) spawned the genius that was and by dint of survival is the Beatles and the songwriting of Macca and Lennon.

McCartney was good enough to rock up and close the Games. Fair play to him.
Why are we going on about how he looks or how vain he may or may not be?Surely it was a symbol of how great his songwriting was and how Great Great Britain must be to produce talent of that quality.

It would only have been appropriate for another singer too sing his songs if he had requested it and I am unsure Adele would have bee his choice.

Totallymum · 28/07/2012 13:08

Not so much an age issue rather than a lack of talent issue.

Mayisout · 28/07/2012 13:11

Not so much an age issue rather than a lack of talent issue

I'll put that daft comment down to you being too young to appreciate what a world recognised phenomenom the beatles are (well-travelled old bat here)
