David Bowie could have sung Heros that wouldve been fine none of this nananana for 3 days rubbish, freddie would have been amazing wouldn't he

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 28/07/2012 17:04

I agree ShipMate. It was a bum note in an otherwise creative and unxpected show. And the fact he did not sing well made it worse.

Lottapianos · 28/07/2012 17:12

If I never hear hey Jude again I will be a happy woman. It is a total dirge

lovebunny · 28/07/2012 17:22

he was awful. his voice has gone. it was embarrassing.

RindersGoesForGold · 28/07/2012 17:35

YABU. PM was fucking awful.

It totally went against the whole lighting of the cauldron that preceded it: the older generation handing over to the younger generation. There are 100 other performers who would have been a better choice than Macca.

Goldenbear · 28/07/2012 18:17

I can't think of 100's of British Artists that have a global appeal. As for cliches I'm not sure the artist and song choice were meant to explore the depths of the imagination- didn't they just want an iconic British singer that performed a well known song, that people could sing along to. At the end of the day the event is about sport not music!

limitedperiodonly · 29/07/2012 09:09

Thanks for posting that thumb. I didn't know.

I know you won't agree, but think it's even more appropriate for MacCartney to sing it given its history.

Kind of like 'dragging out' that other doddery old codger Muhammad Ali who was stripped out his Olympic medal for protesting against young black men being expected to fight the Vietcong when it wasnt them who were doing the oppression in Ali's own country.

Protest is a key part of British tradition (as it is with many other nations who are free). Why the hell shouldn't we celebrate that?

Lora1982 · 29/07/2012 09:22

did you not hear the dodgy sound at the start of hey jude... like he was singing before he started. cant stand the pretencious guy

diddl · 29/07/2012 09:32

I thought it was fine as well.

Perhaps the others being suggested didn´t want to to it?

bosey · 29/07/2012 09:35

Could have been worse, Mull of Kintire springs to mind.

bosey · 29/07/2012 09:36

Kintyre, oops
