Friend has just text to say her and dp have ha a massive row as he wants the window open and she doesn't as she's scared bugs or spiders will get into her mouth
.

I always sleep with mine open, even in winter and I took her DPs side and now I'm in the dog house too Hmm

If you sleep with your windows closed, how do you manage to sleep with no air con and no fan either?!

We close them in the Winter

I have to keep my DS3's window closed even though his room is like an oven, because next door have a fish pond that attracts millions of mozzies...and he's allergic to the bites Sad

Xmasbaby11 · 25/07/2012 23:02

Um because it's not very warm most of the year in the UK, especially at night. We sleep with it open when there's a heatwave, but otherwise, windows are shut to keep the heat in!

TheCraicDealer · 25/07/2012 23:03

I live in Belfast- being too warm is rarely a problem.

BadRoly · 25/07/2012 23:04

I shut ours in winter but they are rattley old sash windows that don't fit perfectly so we always get a refreshing draft if there is anything more than a slight breeze Grin

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 25/07/2012 23:04

DS got so badly bitten on mon night by mozzies that he threw up due to a reaction. his window is now shut at night. :(

DottyFlowers · 25/07/2012 23:04

Sorry I should clarify, the question was how do you sleep with it shut when it's hot outside!! Not when it's cold!! Grin

kaumana · 25/07/2012 23:04

I'm in Scotland, we don't need air con or fans. I keep the windows closed to preserve heat!

DottyFlowers · 25/07/2012 23:05

Sorry your son got bitten nonono :(

We shut them during the winter to conserve heat. No point in putting the heating on and then opening the window. This year our windows have been open since about May time, even throughout all that shitty fuxking rain.

SoleSource · 25/07/2012 23:05

Windows are shut in Wintertime. Was sooo cold here last year. Open in Summertime

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 25/07/2012 23:06

I have always slept with a window open, even in the depths of winter. DP just will not sleep with a window open (for the same reasons as your friend, is convinced that spiders will crawl into his mouth, or try to eat him, or kidnap him, or something). Drives me bonkers! Sometimes, when it is particularly hot, I sleep in the spare room, as I feel suffocated by the lack of air otherwise. Mind you, DP is bloody weird and would not open the blinds at all, never mind a window, given half a chance. Baffles me!

WorraLiberty · 25/07/2012 23:06

I can't sleep with it closed but DS has a ceiling fan to keep him cool

It's a bit noisy though

difficultpickle · 25/07/2012 23:07

I have to sleep with the window closed because of my neighbour's noisy aircon.

I have DD1 (16) screaming at the top of her voice that there is a moth...She is constantly going round shutting windows as I am opening them, I have bad asthma and love the air in the room but DD1 goes totally mental... I have a special moth container to catch them in you would think there was a bloody veloceraptor in there to hear her

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 25/07/2012 23:11

It is a bit stuffy with the window shut. Trouble is when I leave it open I get woken by the blackbirds at around 4am, then the paper boy at around 5am and then the alarm goes off at 6. I have to have it shut at night or I will die of sleep deprivation.

Well I won't, I know, but I might.

moonbells · 25/07/2012 23:12

Two words: hay fever. At some point you just have to decide if you'd rather roast or be unable to breathe.

MrsHuxtable · 25/07/2012 23:12

YANBU!

The window is alsways, always open. ALWAYS!

Lol msrantsalot your daughter sounds like me, I scream and cry at the sight of a moth. I have to have windows open though, I wake up with a headache if I don't get the fresh air

akaemmafrost · 25/07/2012 23:15

When I didn't live in London I always had it open but it opened out onto a private back garden so less chance of opportunistic criminal types seeing it. Here I just wouldn't feel safe leaving it open. Wish I could.

Isitme1 · 25/07/2012 23:15

I leave it open when I'm not in the room if it's warm otherwise I'm shit scared of creepy crawlies!!

We do however have the fan on most nights lol

JeezyPeeps · 25/07/2012 23:15

If I left thd window open at night, half the time j would get no sleep because of the noise of the wind coming in and bashing the blinds against the window.

Opening the window at night is only feasible here for a very short period of time.

Merrylegs · 25/07/2012 23:17

Have to have the windows shut here even on really hot nights.

Bats.

Better a sweaty sleep than a bat in your bed. Tis true.

Inneedofbrandy · 25/07/2012 23:17

I always sleep with them shut. Spiders moths and bugs in my bedroom no thanks. I have my thick goose feather duvet wrapped around me up to my chin whatever the weather is to. Might be something to do with I grew up in a elderly residential home though and have never lived in a cold house. I am slightly obsessed with airing my flat out most mornings though.
