To not understand how people sleep with the window shut?

Friend has just text to say her and dp have ha a massive row as he wants the window open and she doesn't as she's scared bugs or spiders will get into her mouth
.

I always sleep with mine open, even in winter and I took her DPs side and now I'm in the dog house too Hmm

If you sleep with your windows closed, how do you manage to sleep with no air con and no fan either?!

That doesn't seem fair jumper, can you sneakily leave open or get lease changed?

If I'm upstairs or in the cellar then I'll have the window open all year round. If I'm sleeping on the ground floor then I'd rather drown in my own sweat than risk being invaded by wildlife or burglars or rapists or axe murderers. I am imaginative.

GlassofRose · 25/07/2012 23:19

Burglars and gnats

40notTrendy · 25/07/2012 23:20

Yabu. I can't cope with the effing tweeting birds at 4am. Windows closed when we get into bed whatever the weather. I kipped over at my mum's last night and had to close the landing window because of damn owls.

fruitpastille · 25/07/2012 23:20

Security OCD DH always wants them closed in our house. Because you know a bizarrely small burglar might get into our fairly secure back garden on a quiet cul de sac in a boring town. It's annoying but he gets so anxious that i only insist on very hot nights. He also hates being too hot so that helps!

tigerdriverII · 25/07/2012 23:20

Can't believe you are all scared of bats and creepy crawlies What happened to the blitz spirit?

GoodHeavensNo · 25/07/2012 23:21

Because I live in a city and it's noisy.

Because there are intruders.

My house is old with big drafty windows and wooden floors. It's cool in summer and bloody freezing in winter

ThePhantomDeregisterer · 25/07/2012 23:22

I put fly screen material up. If we owned I'd buy the screen building kit.

No one need live in fear of insects while we have Google!

IloveJudgeJudy · 25/07/2012 23:22

moonbells has it - lots of hayfever sufferers in this house so most windows closed at night.

ekidna · 25/07/2012 23:22

burglar (sp?) jumped through my bedroom window onto my bed one night.

Meglet · 25/07/2012 23:22

I never sleep with mine open, even when it's hot like today.

Any noise wakes me up. As lovely as the morning chorus is I don't need to hear it.

I'm not scared of insects. We have Pine Martens - its a big stinky weasel with sharp teeth. Terrified one will come in and chew me.

StuntGirl · 25/07/2012 23:25

Our neighbours are very noisy. It's a nightmare to keep windows open at night here.

tigerdriverII · 25/07/2012 23:25

I would pay to meet a pine marten!!!!

GlassofRose · 25/07/2012 23:25

fruitpastille - I thought no burglar would get through one of the little top windows... old lady near me had an intruder enter through hers (top floor not ground). Also seen slim people get through them when people have locked themselves out. It's possible

NoVegBeforeSkeg · 25/07/2012 23:27

I have to because it's noisy here .
Yes, you, you bastard neighbour with the noisy Subaru.Stop parking under my window if you're off out at 5am.

Moving soon, open windows- hurrah!

kittyandthefontanelles · 25/07/2012 23:27

Next door neighbours smoke under my 8 month old daughter's window so I have to keep it shut. Our bedroom is a sash so a security risk to have open.

CaliforniaLeaving · 25/07/2012 23:28

Windows closed here, it's too hot out and we have the A/C on. In winter I try to leave the window open, just the little bathroom one. I'm too afraid of burglars to leave the bedrooms open all night, we are in a bungalow.
As for the mosquitoes, haven't they sprayed for them, nasty beggars, or they should put some mosquito eating fish in the pond. Bloody rude breeding them for the neighbors like that. But we have to worry about West nile virus if we get bitten so the county has been spraying everywhere for us.

GnocchiNineDoors · 25/07/2012 23:32

I would sleep with mine open every night of the year but DH hates them open. However he does accept my need to have the tv / music / podcast on to fall asleep so I am happy to compromise.

Windoes get opened on nights when he is out and will return drunk though Wink

cakeismysaviour · 25/07/2012 23:32

If I leave the window open the moths come in.

:(

2 reasons: 1) Hayfever. It's no fun. 2) I live about 500m from an airport runway. Planes land throughout the night. It is actually impossible for me to sleep with the window open.

VodkaJelly · 25/07/2012 23:35

Always close my windows at night. My garden backs onto the railway line and the noise of the bloody trains going past is deafening and wakes you up.
