to be MORTIFIED?

On holiday in a rented cottage and as we were there for 2 weeks we had the sheets changed in the middle. All good and fine. Until a few days later the owner approaches me with the washed sheets and asks me what I think the STAINS on one of them might be????? Blush
She says she wants to know so that she can know which stain remover to use!!!
Blush
They were small blobs of browny red and were obviously blood. Blush
Arrrgh !!!

I just muttered ignorance and wished the floor would open up and swallow me up.

She definitely knew what it was and knew it was me and I think wanted to charge me. And we still haven't had the deposit back so who knows, maybe she still will.

Is she BU for showing a guest stained sheets or am I for being so upset about it???

Please please also tell me some holiday horror stories of your own so i can ( hopefully) realise im not on my own!

Eeek! Why didn't you wash them yourself if you knew it had happened?

rainbowinthesky · 23/07/2012 20:07

I think you need to either take them to a laundrette to make sure they get cleaned properly or clean them at the cottage with some good stain remover. Did you not notice?

Sirzy · 23/07/2012 20:07

I think if it was obvious what it was she was being rather rude. If she wanted to charge you for them she should have simply said "So sorry but one of the sheets was stained, would you mind paying?"

lovebunny · 23/07/2012 20:07

what on earth did she expect you to do? if she rents out accommodation, she is going to find this sometimes - periodically, one might say.

OlymPicture · 23/07/2012 20:07

YABU for not washing the sheets IMO

rainbowinthesky · 23/07/2012 20:07

I think yabu for being so upset about it and not arranging with her how to clean it.

honeytea · 23/07/2012 20:09

that is so nasty of her! I think lots of women have night time leeks. I'm sure they didn't spend loads on the sheets, I think she should see it as wear and tear.

tittytittyhanghang · 23/07/2012 20:09

OMFG, how could one woman do that to another. Thats pretty mean. Surely she would realise that it wasn't deliberate, and just bloody go and get some stain remover. She is def. BU.

minceorotherwise · 23/07/2012 20:09

Eeeek!
Feel for you, really do
Don't know what else to say except eeek!

BonkeyMollocks · 23/07/2012 20:09

Grin lovebunny

I bet she has seen worse and if she hasn't then she is damn lucky.

Bit rude the way she approached it.

Kayano · 23/07/2012 20:09

Yanbu to be mortified

PropertyNightmare · 23/07/2012 20:10

Blood has always come out in the wash in this house. Tell her to buy some decent washing powder and get the 'intense cycle' running.

honeytea · 23/07/2012 20:10

I wouldn't have washed them! if you pay for washing as part of the cost of the hire then they should wash them, there are worse things to find on sheets.

rainbowinthesky · 23/07/2012 20:11

Do people really think that the owners should pay to replace the sheets each time someone stains it? Surely the cost is down to the stainer.

Jix · 23/07/2012 20:12

No of course I didn't notice! That is why I am so mortified! (stains were small - 3 of them size of 5 and 10p pieces).

But Awful dreadful.

Horrible and tbh ruined rest of holiday as I really couldn't face her and felt so stressed about it.
Honestly made me feel So small and I am supposedly an adult!

Krumbum · 23/07/2012 20:13

This doesn't sound rude. She was asking for a legitimate reason, not just to embarrass you. Women have periods, it's not shameful. Just say oh I think it's blood, I must have leaked sorry. No fuss.

rainbowinthesky · 23/07/2012 20:14

A bit of menstrual blood shouldn't ruin your holiday. Could you not see this as an opportunity to become a little more "grown up" about bodily fluids and shrug it off.

Sossiges · 23/07/2012 20:15

Not very tactful of her but blood is a PITA to get out once its been in the machine I find.

SunflowersSmile · 23/07/2012 20:16

Actually I don't think op should pay or feel that guilty. These things happen and I bet the cottage owner charges enough to cover it. Owner was being a bitch imho.

rainbowinthesky · 23/07/2012 20:16

Agree about being v difficult to get out unless treated before being washed.

honeytea · 23/07/2012 20:17

jix for all you know they could have been there before you even slept in the bed.

It's nothing to be ashamed of!

It's probably likely she didn't enjoy hiring out the cottage and had to do it out of finacial preasure and can't cope with dealing with people staying there. If that was all that went wrong in a 2 week holiday then that isn't much at all.

Jix · 23/07/2012 20:17

I guess being challenged like that threw me. I felt like I was dirty and disgusting for ruining her beautiful sheets.

Ugh.

Sassybeast · 23/07/2012 20:18

What an absolute bitch she was. And slightly odd - wtf did she think it was ?

honeytea · 23/07/2012 20:18

and at least it wasn't on the sofa!

honeytea · 23/07/2012 20:19

your not dirty and disgusting you are normal and healthy jix
