To take a chamber pot with me when I go camping

Brightspark1 · 13/07/2012 23:04

I'm looking forward to going to a festival and have no problem with camping. Except that after two DCs my bladder is not what it should be and I always have to go at night. The thought of getting up in the cold and wet inthe middle of the night to do a wee is very unappealing. I could use the pot and dispose of the contents discreetly in a bush in the morning.
Any thoughts?

thisisyesterday · 13/07/2012 23:08

Brightspark1 · 13/07/2012 23:09

Ive got one. Was here when i bought the house Grin

LeB0f · 13/07/2012 23:09

And plastic bottles. But don't leave them lying around too long. Or where anyone fancies a lager.

Noqontrol · 13/07/2012 23:10

How about a bucket? Smile

Secret7 · 13/07/2012 23:11

Small bucket? But don't leave it near your shoes just in case it gets knocked over

Brightspark1 · 13/07/2012 23:11

This is yesterday - Portable urinals! Brilliant idea. Do they really turn solid?

I bought an antique chamber pot in the charity shop. It now has an aspidistra in it.

GreenEyesAndHam · 13/07/2012 23:11

Yeah if you've got one already go for it Grin

blondieminx · 13/07/2012 23:13

Ah, I can solve this one Grin

You need an empty fairy fabric softener bottle - they have the widest neck.... Have your wee, pop the lid back on the bottle, back to sleep then just empty your bottle down the portaloo in the morning. Less classy than a chamberpot but there we are...

CakeCrisis · 13/07/2012 23:14

Please don't dispose of the contents in a bush, take it to the loos. Campsites that smell of piss are vile remembers festival campsites where the men couldn't be bothered to go the portaloos and just pissed along the hedges instead

Brightspark1 · 13/07/2012 23:16

Point taken - cake crisis

TravelJohn does indeed go solid. Warm first, eep, then solid. Are you taking the DCs? I need to find the remaining two Johns from the pack, not only useful whenj feeling idle, but really didn't want to leave DD by herself in a tent on a festival campsite.

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 13/07/2012 23:18

We went camping when I was 8 months pg with DD, after first night of trudging up the field four times I sent DH out for a bog standard bucket which got emptied in the back hedge in the morning. Do what you need to do, just chuck it out before your neighbours are up and don't kick it over in the middle of the night Grin

thisisyesterday · 13/07/2012 23:19

i've never used a traveljohn myself, but have a friend who swears by them for the kids (or so she claims)

RedMolly · 13/07/2012 23:19

Seriously brightspark, traveljohns are the way to go. They do work. I'm personally quite a fan of the chamberpot, but i think you will struggle to find a bush to empty it in - greenery can be quite lacking, depending where you're off to. Tbh, most people just go outside the tent and hope no one is looking!

princelypurpleparrot · 13/07/2012 23:20

The TravelJohn is FAB. I use them when I go camping as I'm a nocturnal wee-er. And so much more pleasant than festival toilets at any time of day!

EchoBitch · 13/07/2012 23:20

I pee at the back of the tent in the middle of the night...(outside mind you) Grin

And behind the car during the day if the loos are too far away.

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 13/07/2012 23:20

Disclaimer - hedge backed on to ditch and farmland, wouldn't have done this on a busy or crowded campsite!

EchoBitch · 13/07/2012 23:22

RedMolly. Smile and thankyou.

Brightspark1 · 13/07/2012 23:22

DCs are late teens , so won't be coming as they are mortified at the thought of DPs going to a festival at our stage of decrepitude. Are these travel johns easy to aim at?

Try reading The tent, the bucket and me

SORRY! NOOOOO! Do not read that book about Emma Kennedy camping in the 70s. The holiday where the tent got blown away in a storm so they sought shelter in a caravan, which got blown over and slid down hill and they had to climb out before it went off the cliff...

Definitely don't read that book!
