I can see how it happens but if someone has asked a specific question, surely it is polite to answer it before going off in a completely different direction. And if the other topics are so interesting then start a new thread. Sorry for rant, but seen so many op's ignored when they are asking for advice.

It's forum life.... Same all over the Internet. You can't change it

The hijack is valid in this case as you didn't ask a specific question.

I prefer to call hijacks conversations. And generally, when people do it, they apologise to the OP, as I have done.

not really hijacking is it when conversation takes a turn people usually say oh off topic or sorry op and then continue chatting cos thats all this really is a chat forum ,

No worms in the marmalade, when we were small we'd ask for marmalade with no 'lives'. No idea where it came from..
