I don't know if I'm risking a big flaming here, but I am on another online forum which is so much more user-friendly (its Ravelry if anyone's on it too.

You can tell at a glance who has replied to your posts and in which thread.
People can 'earburn' you if they think you could have some useful input into a topic (instead of you finding out days later when there's no point any more).

You can mention/thank people by earburning them which is nice.

You can instantly see how many times each person has posted on a thread and so (for example) see all the posts by the OP instead of trawling through a huge thread trying to get an update.

There are loads of other things (post statistics, search facility) but I don't want to bore anyone.

I know people hate change but it would really improve things IMHO.

AIBU?

SilverSixpence · 26/06/2012 10:23

think you're missing the point - i'm talking about how the forum works. I'm not here to defend knitting.

I was a bit meh about mumsnet not being user friendly when i first joined I was used to glittery names and the like Wink but it is really easy to get around when you get used to it and im not fussed if anybody has replied to me and who it is

Sirzy · 26/06/2012 10:25

I have the posts by op highlighted in green, makes it really simple to find their posts without having to read the whole thread.

SilverSixpence · 26/06/2012 10:26

sirzy how did you do that?

OP posts:
Sirzy · 26/06/2012 10:26

Via the customise facility

WorraLiberty · 26/06/2012 10:27

Lentilly!! Have you any idea how much coffee hurts when it's projected from the nostrils?? Angry

What the fuck is 'earburning'?

Thank you

AnyoneForTennis · 26/06/2012 10:27

We do have a 'search' facility!Confused

AnyoneForTennis · 26/06/2012 10:28

There ate over a million members here..... How would you be able to even know who could help with what?

AnyoneForTennis · 26/06/2012 10:28

*are

SilverSixpence · 26/06/2012 10:29

thanks i've done it now. Highlighted my own posts too.

Earburning is where you get a message in your inbox (or an alert on the main forum page) to say someone has mentioned you in a post.

OP posts:
SilverSixpence · 26/06/2012 10:30

well in the past people always used to mention e.g. Tiktok in breastfeeding threads, or whoever is expert in a particular area

OP posts:
LentillyFart · 26/06/2012 10:32

I don't know about earburning worra but I expect you're now something of an expert on 'noseburning' Grin

AnyoneForTennis · 26/06/2012 10:33

I've never heard if 'tiktok' and I have been her 6 years!

The forum is too big

ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/06/2012 10:33

Hangon a forum-bashing minute.

Did someone say that MN was less user-friendly than another forum wot has trickers?

Merrylegs · 26/06/2012 10:34

Right. Well. I clicked on your link.

I guess I can't get into the forum unless I'm a member. And I'm not a knitter so I won't join BUT a brief rummage round the blog pages etc and I'm impressed.

It looks a lovely and clear site.

I really like the striking welcoming graphic of the animals revelling (or unravelling) in the wool - I get it - you knit with Llama fur, and sheep, and rabbit - and actually, OMG - Dog?!

SilverSixpence · 26/06/2012 10:34

it doesn't have tickers Grin I hate sparkles as much as the next MNetter!

OP posts:
Mrsjay · 26/06/2012 10:36

when i first joined i am sorry chaos i won't dis the forum again Blush

it was the glitter it just dazzled me Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/06/2012 10:36

Does ear burning only alert you to positive mentions?

Can you imagine a whole load of earburing notifications slagging you off?

Hmm
Takver · 26/06/2012 10:36

Couldn't you just pm someone if you wanted to alert them to a thread?

Lots of people I know lurve Ravelry though :)

Sirzy · 26/06/2012 10:37

So earburining is like tagging on Facebook?

Is earburing for crochet emergencies?

Very good Mrsjay, I appreciate your alopgy but give me a lowercase c again and I will rout you out with ninja ferrets and torment you tiresomely, won't I Lemarc?

Wink
