Is it pretty normal men swear when they hurt? My husband said 'fuck!' three times when he hit his toes on the steps. He usually doesnt swear unless it's really frstrating and did last night as it was very hurting.

I swear without being hurt

hth Grin

BarredfromhavingStella · 26/06/2012 09:40

Yeah me too but more when I've hurt myself-I'd say 3 fucks is pretty reasonable.

SPsFanjoLovesBrokenBiscuits · 26/06/2012 09:41

I swear a lot!

Swearing when hurt is common. I stubbed my toe on door and let out a few words

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 09:41

Dh swears like a trooper when he hurts himself but then so do I.

DublinMammy · 26/06/2012 09:41

Totally normal. Am only surprised he stopped after 3....

accountantsrule · 26/06/2012 09:42

I swear when I get hurt or when my PT is pushing me too hard - my DH rarely swears other than at the football!

fruitysummer · 26/06/2012 09:42

I normally swear when i'm driving........or when i've hurt myself.

Totally normal!

ThisIsAUsername · 26/06/2012 09:42

3 fucks? The man has some self restraint. I'd have give it at least 5 fucks, a 1 shitty, 1 bollocks, 1 wanker and 2 bastards.

There is naff all worse than stubbing your toe. The pain really makes me angry Confused

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 26/06/2012 09:43

Yes, normal. Were you offended by it?

Petsinmypudenda · 26/06/2012 09:44

There is naff all worse than stubbing your toe

Standing on a small lego brick is the most painful thing known to man

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 26/06/2012 09:45

Fucking hell, I would have though stubbing your toe warrants a lot more than 3 fucks to be honest.

I say fuck at least 3 times when I break a nail Wink

He sounds totally normal...............

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 26/06/2012 09:45

Pets - standing on an upturned plug comes pretty close Shock

bronze · 26/06/2012 09:47

It's proven that swearing helps with pain

BarredfromhavingStella · 26/06/2012 09:52

Fuck yes Lego hurts!-I actually cut the bottom of my foot standing on a piece Angry

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 26/06/2012 09:52

I'd agree with the upturned plug, although stubbing a toe is pretty close.

I managed a slew of "fuck"s the other day when I managed to trip over the dog, bang my knee on the wall and twist three toes in my trousers AT THE SAME TIME!

squeakytoy · 26/06/2012 09:55

my usual outburst when stubbing my toe is "fucking cunting twatting bastard", so three fucks is quite restrained.. Grin

bizzyizzie · 26/06/2012 09:55

I never swear, it is completly unnecessary, I will not have it in front of my children at all, I hate it. If you think its ok to swear, thats your choice, but if your child copies and says f**k at school, how will that be for him/her getting into trouble. Not good idea is it.
I had to laugh though when londonandwhere said that about dh. I could just picture it, sorry.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 26/06/2012 09:57

My parents swore when I was growing up (not constantly, but when the situation required it) and I never swore at school...well not in front of anyone who cared anyway. It is possible to teach responsible swearing Grin

5madthings · 26/06/2012 09:59

yes its normal! i do it as well and with regards to swearing, i try not to do it infront of my children but am a bit crap actually! and its not like children learn not to swear, they just learn where it is appropriate to swear, what scarlett said! :)

Can't say I've ever found a good fuck painful or annoying Grin

Sarcalogos · 26/06/2012 10:03

What an odd thread.

It is normal for anyone to swear when they are hurt.

The function of swear words in a language is to give release in a verbal instead of physical way. Generally in moments of extreme tension/pain/distress.

Saying 'fuck' when you are hurt does help with the pain ( several good studies confirm this).

So I agree, people sweating out of context is annoying and rude for the sake of it. But I must admit I do love a properly used swear word.

Essentially it's this ability that separates us from animals. (who in such situations generally have no other recourse other than swearing.

Sarcalogos · 26/06/2012 10:03

*other than physical aggression I mean.

Sarcalogos · 26/06/2012 10:04
  • swearing out of context. ffs! Although sweating out of context is bad too!
HeadfirstForHalos · 26/06/2012 10:12

Three fucks for a stubbed toe sounds reasonable to me!
