Which is worse worms or nits?

I'd say worms because they are associated with poo and bums. We've had TWO doses of the little fuckers so far...obviously reinfection despite my OCD at home.

We haven't had nits yet though so perhaps it's unfair of me to judge like this.

All I know is I DETEST parasites of any sort. Apparantly over 70% of living things on the earth is actually a parasite. Nice huh? Glad we're in the 30%.

We've never encountered worms.

Nits don't really both me.

Minimammoth · 14/06/2012 14:14

Are you sure about us being in the 30%?

aquashiv · 14/06/2012 14:16

worms - Jesus the idea of them makes my botty and I shiver

SamuelWestsMistress · 14/06/2012 14:17

Ha! Good point Minimammoth. I'll rephrase that and say specifically mumsnetters aren't parasites then. Although I'm lead to believe that netmums think we are?

We.ve had nits in this household many times it doesn't bother me.

Never had worms, sounds worse to me!

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 14/06/2012 14:20

Worms. I can deal with things living in my hair but not in my arse

DiscoDaisy · 14/06/2012 14:20

Our family (7 of us) have had nits quite often (always treated straight away) but have only had worms once.
Worms were far worse.

AChickenCalledKorma · 14/06/2012 14:21

Definitely worms, because of the disturbed nights and excessive quantities of laundry. And I wish people were more clued up about them. Am sure 90% of parents I know are completely ignorant and their kids are spreading them like wildfire.

Wolfgirl · 14/06/2012 14:23

how do you catch worms Grin no, shouldnt Grin more a [schock]

Mmmm...gonna check DC's poo's tonight!

Callisto · 14/06/2012 14:30

I think the human race can definitely be described as parasitic. Not sure if nits or worms are worse though.

HoneyMurcott · 14/06/2012 14:43

Worms are gross. vvvvv easy to get, easier than nits cos you can actually get them by breathing them in! I am not making this up read the blurb on the worm pill packet. My dd is good about hand washing but bites her nails/ fingers in mouth so it's a done deal. And more washing than with nits - sheets, jamas, you are even supposed to mop the floor around their bed daily. What to do if their bedroom is carpeted? Saving grace is to treat you just pop a pill and they taste like chocolate. Dd likes them.

fortifiedwithtea · 14/06/2012 14:55

Had nits well bloody big head lice on the kids twice. Very to easy to spot, kids are very blonde and nits easy to treat.

Never had worms, touch wood and whistle.

I imagine worms are worse.

LemonBreeland · 14/06/2012 15:01

We've been very lucky and had neither so far. Both sound bloody awful to me.

Snorbs · 14/06/2012 15:07

Nits are worse. It takes hours to apply the horrible lotion and do the endless combing every day. And then do it all again a week later.

When my DS had a dose of worms a few years ago it was simply a matter of one tablet and a good hot wash for sheets etc. A day or two later they were all gone. Easy-peasy, simple-pimple.

pengymum · 14/06/2012 15:20

apparently 50% of population have worms ...
and don't realise it Shock

fullofregrets · 14/06/2012 15:30

Worms are worse. Nits are more socially acceptable. I'd rather admit to having nits than worms.

Neither are great though.

cybbo · 14/06/2012 15:49

nits MILES worse

harder to get rid of IMO

Wish people would talk about worms as openly As nits though as they are just as rife, and as contagious. But as they happen south of the border, it's all hush hush

biffnbuster · 14/06/2012 17:23

I was convinced I had tape worms, went to the drs and explained why I thought this. She had to look it up on the computer, outcome = had to get a sample of poo with what I thought was worm or worm eggs in it to be sent to the department of tropical disease in London . I had 4 mornings of going through my poo looking for things that shouldn't be there (not nice I can tell u.) Anyways nothing to report !! I have had nits and it was a lot less embarassing and gag inducing !!!

sheepsgomeeping · 14/06/2012 17:29

Well, they're both itchy buggers are they not?

Would rather have nits tbf. Worms freak me right out ugh ugh, wriggling away inside your guts

IAmTheWifeOfMaoTseTung · 14/06/2012 17:29

Worms are unbelievably gross, but you do just have to pop a pill and wash all the bed linen (which you were probably going to do anyway). Nits take forever to eliminate on long or thick hair.

Moln · 14/06/2012 17:40

Hard one to answer.

Worms are easier to get rid of of certain (one tablet) so in the treatment sense nits are worse

Nits have more awarness though so are spotted earlier on (expect maybe the first time and you have a mother who never experience nits in her life!), there's less awareness with worms so it might take longer to realise there is a need for treatment. So in the sense of general diagnosis worms are worse.

Also I think that because nits are more commom (or i suppose more noticed therefore thought of as common) that the public perception of nits is they are more acceptable than worms

50% of the population have worms! Is that at any given time!?

We've had both in our house, worms once and nit too many times fot me to count sadly (mostly due to a non treater in DS1s class - DS2 has never had them!)

fuzzypicklehead · 14/06/2012 18:05

50%! Good Lord. How do you know if you have worms, then?

cybbo · 14/06/2012 18:57

your arse itches and the tiny white worms come out at night

sheepsgomeeping · 14/06/2012 20:18

My ds had worms. His bum was itchy and he asked me to look and I actually saw a little white worm dissapearing back up his bum.

tbf they are easier to get rid of than nits but a pain in the arse (boom boom) afterwards as you got to wash all bedlinen, make sure the dc dont scratch their bums, have clean nails hands etc.

mummmsy · 14/06/2012 20:26

worms...
