Which is worse worms or nits?

I'd say worms because they are associated with poo and bums. We've had TWO doses of the little fuckers so far...obviously reinfection despite my OCD at home.

We haven't had nits yet though so perhaps it's unfair of me to judge like this.

All I know is I DETEST parasites of any sort. Apparantly over 70% of living things on the earth is actually a parasite. Nice huh? Glad we're in the 30%.

i see no-one wants to be on this thread now... was it something i said Shock ?

2rebecca · 14/06/2012 21:10

worms, they are intensely itchy. I very much doubt 50% of the UK has them at once because they are extremely itchy. I think adults don't necessarily think of worms if they have an itchy bum though and presume it is a kid thing, which it is here predominently but an adult may be the first person in the family to get symptoms or complain of symptoms.
If you bite your nails you may have reinfected yourself so may need a second tablet.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 14/06/2012 21:16

Call them by their real name, threadworms, and they don't seem so bad... DD1 has had them a couple of times but a dose of the meds and a little smear of haemorrhoids cream to make the itch go away and voilà.

I caught nits once from the DDs a few years ago and that was FAR worse.

Buntingbunny · 14/06/2012 22:34

Nits - the worms buggered off after one visit.

The nits keep returning. They really bother me, but DD2 has fairly fine hair and I worry someone will spot the fuckers before I do.

topknob · 14/06/2012 22:37

headlice are worse for us, we are a family of 7, one dose of Ovex to everyone deals with it, maybe a 2nd if needed, yet headlice takes ages to remove and be rid off :(

ReallyTired · 14/06/2012 22:39

Worms are worse, because its impossible to know that your kids have an infestiation until they have truely taken up residence. A least with nits its fairly easy to tell if your kids have them or not.

I can't help wondering if kids should be dewormed occassionally like cats and dogs are.

Buntingbunny · 14/06/2012 22:40

They don't really bother me.

Also I'm not the most frequent of bed cloth washers so worms simply encouraged less sloth.

AnyFucker · 14/06/2012 22:43

worms

the absolute fucking fuckers

FatherHankTree · 14/06/2012 22:47

Worms are far more minging than nits. People on here seem so far to have referred to threadworms, but having known a few people who've had hookworms and roundworms, I'd prefer nits any day.

severnofnine · 14/06/2012 22:49

Nits are FAR worse

worms are easier to treat with a tablet and if you break their lifecycle with all in one in bed/ bath in morning/ hands out of mouth etc you get rid.

I have been combing and treating my 3 for WEEKS and Im still finding the occasional fucker. Plus using nit treatemtn/ combing my frizzy dyed hair has completely messed it up.

If i cuddle my children they might give my nits but cant get worms unless i ingest their eyes

can someone please make frontline for children??? it would be much easier to worm de-nit them regularly like the dog

topknob · 14/06/2012 22:58

For worms though you just take ovex and it's done, Nits are much harder to get rid off !

devilinside · 14/06/2012 23:38

Nits are worse than worms, but the real horror, worse than both is SCABIES (we just had an infestation, and they are totally indestructable) wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy

DoesItComeInBlack · 15/06/2012 00:21

Not had nits in this house (yet) but had worms a couple of times, easy enough to get rid of though. I think nits would be far worse as we all have thick long curly hair which would be agony to get a nit comb through.

MarkGruffalo · 15/06/2012 00:28

Tis a bit like asking which is worse - A kick in the arse or a kick in the fanny (unless you're american) although that said i suspect fanny would hurt more than a kick up the bum. Both worms and nits areequally grim - having both at the same time though takes the Biscuit

thread worms are a good thing believe it or not,

one of the reasons that we have had such an increase in childhood leukemias, is because we all over use the anti bacteria sprays,

and that now thread worms are treated with a single use table, they are not as common,

they now know that thread worms kick start part of the immune system, as children would get thread worms repeatedly at an early age and their immune system would respond, creating a boosted immune system,

which was the bodies's natural way of preventing much more serious problems such as leukaemia,

I had this explained to me by a specialist, as we watched my daughter hurtle on a bicycle down the cliff top, friend's sheep field we spend our summers camping in, I had on seeing her do a flip over the handle bars, and face plant, exclaimed , "oh well, that will be a dose of worms",as she stood up sputtering out mouthfuls of mud, grass and sheep poo,

he reassured me that it was a good thing, and that is why he made sure his sons were camping in a sheep field.

what are they going to do, announce that we should give children worms, look at the up thread response, we are own worst enemies when it comes to receiving non palatable information ,

where as nits/lice are far more serious problem than we realise, as repeated scratching of ones scalp with grubby nails can lead to infections, that can become life threatening as infections in the fluids that cushion the brain are not a good thing.

Solo · 15/06/2012 01:27

Headlice.

I've had threadworm twice as an adult and both times only since Dd was born. Neither Dc had them funnily enough and I'm anal (haha!!) about hand washing.
Used to get them often as a child for some reason.
Once you've had them, there's no mistaking that worm crawling out y'bum feeling .

Headlice are a pain to get out of Dd's extremely curly, long hair or Ds's very thick hair.

pengymum · 19/06/2012 20:44

Ahem threadworms do not confine themselves to bottoms...

katamongthepigeons · 19/06/2012 21:11

We've had both. Worms much worse - sometimes you don't know they've got them and you can't tell for sure if they're gone! Nits are easy.

Zondra · 19/06/2012 21:14

Pissing myself at MarkGruffolo! Grin

Nits are FAR, FAR worse!

Worms are easily, quickly treated.
Nits these days seem to be immune to every bloody treatment under the sun & the old comb & tea tree conditioner routine is intense & a nightmare for both child & parent to endure.
We unfortunately, because of some lazy bastard parent had to endure super nits for THREE years on & off.
TOTAL NIGHTMARE.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 19/06/2012 21:21

Worms. By a long shot.

DilysPrice · 19/06/2012 21:29

I think it's hookworm which is being considered as a treatment for allergies and other, more serious, autoimmune disorders, I don't know about threadworms being used.

lapsedorienteerer · 19/06/2012 21:31

Worms very easy to treat, one pill and they're gone, a 2nd to make sure......very,very easy.

CouthyMow · 19/06/2012 21:33

Hmm Inspecting a head, or inspecting an arse? On balance, I'd say worms are worse!

(Is it bad that I routinely worm my DC's like you would dogs and cats?!)

Krumbum · 19/06/2012 23:45

I think nits are worse as they are much harder to get rid of! You can see them in your hair but with worms you can easily not look at your poo and you just take a tablet to get rid of them.
Nits creep me out so much.

Shodan · 20/06/2012 00:00

MarkGruffalo - I can tell you from experience that a kick in the fanny is far more painful than a kick in the arse.

So imo, in this situation, the nits are the arse and the worms are the fanny.

If I'm going to be fighting nasty little parasites I prefer to be able to see them without the aid of a torch and sudden duvet- flinging.
