Bloody Oreo adverts!

They rile me every time so I NEED you to help me understand because I just don't get it... Why do you 'lick it'? Why oh why? I feel like I'm missing something enormous. Genuinely, I feel really quite thick. You open up a biscuit, lick the inside, then put it back together again to eat. WHYYYYYYYYYY?!!!!

If you can tell me I'm being unreasonable to simply not get it - and spend 5 minutes after each time I see it trying to, angrily, fathom it - then please, step forward...

because that is how you are meant to eat an Oreo Grin YABVVVU

picnicbasketcase · 12/06/2012 19:25

To cover it in your own mouth germs in case someone tries to steal it and run away

Westcountrylovescheese · 12/06/2012 19:26

They are American biscuits and part of the culture there. Oreo are desperate for then to take off in the uk too, but doesn't seem to have happened. We do have lovely biscuits as competition.

The licking it thing is an American thing which they are using to promote them here.

Personally I prefer a jammy dodger or chocolate cream... Oreos are far too dry IMO.

Westcountrylovescheese · 12/06/2012 19:27

Oh, also YANBU...

babbashouse · 12/06/2012 19:30

squeaktoy, I beg of you - WHYYYYYYYYY?!

picnic, that might actually salve my bewilderment for a time. Thank you!

Oh a custard creme Westcountry! YUM! Bloody yanks, pre-licking. 'Then you lick it' indeed. YUCK!

More American hype! Just what we need, isn't it?

YANBU.

(Wanders off muttering about sheep...)

BatmanLovesCheese · 12/06/2012 19:52

The little girl is creepy -that's my main objection. Her voice is all wrong.

ThisIsNotWhatIWasAfter · 12/06/2012 20:17

They have the texture of plasterboard and no amount of oversweet icing stuff in the middle is going to make them better than a chocolate digestive or a hob nob. Dp buys them occasionally and i feel robbed because it's just not a proper biscuit. YANBU.

FrillyMilly · 12/06/2012 20:19

I like Oreos but I have no desire to lick them or dip them in milk. Why would you dip biscuits in milk?

Oh I know I do find the ads really creepy. I quite like oreos, particularly with peanut butter- this was the one good thing to come out of DD1s The Parent Trap obsession many years ago.

My favourites are the double stuff ones Blush but I hate having them in the house as DH finds the name hilarious and it will invariably end in him using the phrase balls deep which incidentally puts me right off any kind of biscuit.

Bunbaker · 12/06/2012 20:25

"Oreo are desperate for then to take off in the uk too, but doesn't seem to have happened."

I'm not surprised. They look lovely and chocolatey, but taste like they have never been near a cocoa bean. They are an unbelievably disappointing biscuit. Bourbon creams are miles better.

Passmethecrisps · 12/06/2012 20:25

hang on a minute . . .why are WE being taught how to eat friggin biscuits? Is the UK not the biscuit capital of the world? If it's not it should be.

They should try a tunnocks tea cake or a macaroon or the massively underrated digestive biscuit with real butter spread on it.

And, for the record. Dipping biscuits in anything is just wrong.

fluffette1980 · 12/06/2012 20:25

Whenever I see the ad all I can think of is the thread on here which described the little girl as "suggestively licking the biscuit." shudders

JosephineCD · 12/06/2012 20:36

They are rubbish biscuits.

LineRunner · 12/06/2012 20:39

They are shit biskwits.

nellyjelly · 12/06/2012 20:41

Abernathy biscuits. Rare but classy. Oreos are rubbish. I agree any U K biscuit beats them.

LineRunner · 12/06/2012 20:49

My favourite biscuit has always been the digestive, followed by the garibaldi for an exotic treat.

flixy102 · 12/06/2012 21:05

I love Oreos.

BrianCoxhasSmellySox · 12/06/2012 21:09

I love Oreos.

I break them, I lick all the cream and then I gobble the biscuit.

Same technique is used on custard creams and bourbons! (In private, obvs!)

that bloody advert though.....I have to turn over. She looks cute, she sounds like a 40 year old though. Why have they made her talk like a 40 year old?? Don't get me started on the father....idiot.

spends far too much time watching adverts

now wants an Oreo

Glittertwins · 12/06/2012 21:12

I love Oreos :)

oreocrumbs · 12/06/2012 21:14

Wanders in to see what I've done now....

Wrong Oreo I see.

Well I love Oreos too. Grin.

Glittertwins · 12/06/2012 21:16

We can sit in the corner eating them and avoid getting hit by digestives etc (although I am rather partial to them too!)

budgieshell · 12/06/2012 21:19

Sorry everyone but love the ad (so cute).
But if this biscuit is the best america has to offer, I will never go to america.
I think the worst british biscuit is 10 times better than an oreo.
