Is one being unreasonable to take a couple of corgis to use as hot water bottles on public engagements? next time

Long story, so one will cut it short. One went on a family outing yesterday, and it involved a somewhat long boat trip in full public view, with a brisk north westerly whistling its way up one's summer coat. One had to be defrosted afterwards by half a dozen valets with hairdryers. One is thinking with a bit of prior preparation that it might have been a rather better idea to take along a couple of corgis as foot warmers. What would one's subjects do?

Does one not have a couple of serfs to keep one warm? Or is that now not part of the new economy drive?

You should have taken a slanket. Arms would be free for waving but your old bones would be kept warm. Maybe some kind lady in waiting will knit you one with the royal coat of arms on it for your next public engagement.

Yes take a slanket next time. The static will provide power to boil a kettle for a cuppa too.

And don't forget a flask of gin too

Absolutely, Ma'am - corgis would be just the right accessory for a cold and windy boat trip.
You might also wish to consider a few gun dogs to keep you warmer above ankle height.
And a headscarf & mac to keep the wind off.

corgis and heated cushions. a bear-hugger under your frock. in fact, do what the rest of us did and stay home and watch on the telly. you're an old bird, you deserve a rest....ma'am.

I completely agree it would be an excellent idea Ma'am. Your subjects would have enjoyed seeing the Royal corgis scampering up and down the Royal barge and it would have reminded the countries dogs of their place in the pecking petting order.

One wasn't able to sit on the thrones for fear of not being able to get up again. Alas. Also one is unable to smile quite as much as Her Majesty the Queen Mother as one is mostly German and therefore prone to having a face on one like Angela Merkl.

I have a very beautiful black labrador cross who will happily come and sit on your lap to keep you warm, Ma'am. With our brown lab lying on your feet, you will be as warm as toast. Or might I suggest a pair of Uggs - they do white sparkly ones that would have gorn with your outfit beautifully.

I imagine that, by the end of the day, your face was frozen into that expression, and smiling would have been a total impossibility.

If you don't mind, I have a few comments to make:-

a) You have too many fireplaces. They also lacked symmetry. There was a big thread on MN about mantelpieces being balanced - it even got a mention on Jeremy Kyle. You should try and find the thread for a bit of advice and guidance.

b) Your tour guide tells everyone where your secret room is. What is the point of a secret room if everybody knows about it? You should sack him.

c) Your nets are looking a bit dirty.
