I do like the image of 'kowtowing'. I can't recall the last time I did some of that. Certainly not to the Queen who I've never even met. Hmm.

dikkertjedap · 31/05/2012 18:23

Probably because there is nothing else to be remotely happy or enthusiastic about ...

Economy in a huge mess for probably the next decade ...
As Leveson inquiry shows a morally bankrupt political system and the same for the press
A financial system which was supposed to be the great British driver to wealth which has collapsed as a house of cards and is thoroughly discredited and there is no doubt a lot more misery to come until it gets finally reformed!
State schools which are in a mess
NHS which is in a mess

So it seems there is finally something to take people's minds of all this

perceptionreality · 31/05/2012 18:28

Hully - you are sooooooooo right.

I don't get this stupid 'proud' thing either. It's quite pathetic and meaningless.

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 18:47

Can I have a Special K sandwich?

I've had a bit of a think.

I think my mistake is in thinking that most people think like me and share my views. But they don't.

It's a shock.

Hully
I keep finding that people don't have the same tastes as I do. They wear leggings and fascinators. It bewilders me.

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 19:07

My friend's brother said to the two of us recently, "What you fail to realise is that only three and a half people in the world think the way you do."

We laughed. BUT IT IS TRUE

OP posts:
chipmunksex · 31/05/2012 19:09

leggings and fascinators lawks they do as well you ought to have seen the one (facinator that is) that my dm wore to my db's wedding. Shock

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 19:10

amillionyears · 31/05/2012 19:15

I love you Hully but we all know you are nuts Smile

chipmunksex · 31/05/2012 19:15

Argghh now I have imagined dm in leggings

No one thinks like I do!

I hate hot weather, I think people in the North of England are more unfriendly, I hate the weekend, christmas, my own birthday, school plays, holidays. I could go on.

But it's ok I am right and everyone else is wrong.Smile

flexybex · 31/05/2012 19:32

I do chipmunks (Is that chipmunk-sex or chipmunk's ex?) - apart from the North of England bit!

Enforced jollity leaves me cold. You ought to have seen the glares I got today at work when I voiced that particular opinion...... Ooooooh!

But they're the ones whose minds and pockets are being controlled, not me! All that bunting and worthless knick-knacks they're buying from China. All the TV adverts. All the red, white and blue tat......

amillionyears · 31/05/2012 19:34

and red white and blue clothes

cardibach · 31/05/2012 20:11

Hully you have made me both laugh and cheer on this thread!
Incidentally - if we got rid of the monarchy, why would we need a President? I don;t understand. If Parliament runs without 'help' from the royals, why would they need 'help' from a President? We have two houses of Parliament (not that I'm happy about non-elected peers) why do we need more?

PrincessPinot · 31/05/2012 20:20

Hully what pish and bibble that Diana was murdered. I've been to the tunnel in Paris where it happened and it's a fucking death trap and the driver was speeding and over the limit. The side entrance where some shadowy car is supposed to have cut in and knocked the Merc off course is a teeny wee exit point. Teeny.

have PM'd you

ledkr · 31/05/2012 20:55

hully I agree and so does dh. He just said he cant believe we have "kings and queens and bloody castles and palaces in this day and age" you have got him very wound up now, shall i send him round for a good rant? Grin

DashingRedhead · 31/05/2012 20:56

cardibach Because it is beyond important to have a head of state who is NOT political. The one advantage to the Queen (not because she's royal, Marys Robinson and McAleese both had this in fecking spades) is that whatever her views (and guest list to royal wedding last year made that QUITE clear) she is not a politician.

I think our heads of state should be elected but they absolutely should NOT be politicians.

Sorry, am I being very shouty? Blush

chipmunksex · 31/05/2012 21:20

Oh Jeeps, it's chipmunk sex I put a hovery thing on so no one would ask me anymore.

time for a namechange methinks

Flatbread · 31/05/2012 21:31

Loveis, obe tangible impact for you a d your children, is that your children can never be head of state with the monarchy. That is one job that is already denied to your children.

And they would have an equal chance to be the face of our country in a Republic

Flatbread · 31/05/2012 21:40

And when children look at someon on tv, like a politician or filmstar or footballer or nobel laureate and say 'I want to be that ' One says 'Yes dear, you can be anything you want, but you will have to work very hard to be '

But if your child looks at the fawning over the Queen and says 'I want to be that ' what do you respond...'err sorry, your bloodline is not good enough'?

SpringHeeledJack · 31/05/2012 21:48

while on the subj can I register my FUCKING IRE that in midst of panic packing am sposed to find red white 'n' blue outfits for a party at school that's going to last for an hour?

not to mention help one make a crown whilst doing said panic packing

I am orf to France tomoz to mark the occasion. The glorious socialist republic over t'water

nothingoldcanstay · 31/05/2012 21:49

Flat - missed the bit where Kate married Wills then?

You can be royal if you get lucky or close as dammit.

Isn't the point that the queen spends her life being the Queen (if she's any good). Bit like being a nun, there is lot's of stuff she just can't do.

SpringHeeledJack · 31/05/2012 21:52

chipmunk I hate most of the things on your shit list too

I do like Christmas, tho. Only the arse end of it, mind- ie bit after dinner which is just for snoozage

mmmmm snoooozage

I moved from the North East to London in medieval times a while back and was amazed to be in a place where strangers actually spoke to you at the bus stop
