AIBU to think the current Queen has been a mediocre to poor Monarch?

Anyone else think all the praise lavished on her is undue? We are all told that she has done a 'good job' but has she really? The servile media, including the supposedly balanced BBC won't broker any attempts to criticise her in any way. We are simply told that she has been 'beyond reproach.'

I'd argue that she's been a dull and unimaginative Monarch, clinging to hidebound tradition and fighting to preserve arcane privileges like a Royal Yacht (actually a mini cruise liner) and resisting paying tax on her income. At crucial moments in her reign she's dallied and shown weak leadership.

On her watch the monarchy has at best stagnated and at worst slipped into an inexorable decline and has begun to feel like an anachronism.

I'll venture that history will not judge her as kindly as all these fawning contemporary commentators do. Her reign will be seen as the point at which the rot set in.

Are the other people who do the same jobs as William and Harry earning the same? I imagine not. The royals don't have jobs as such. They're just taking a job away from someone who actually needs it, surely? If they are doing it unpaid, it's not really a job, is it?

And that is backed up how?

You doing Charity work actually means jack all, you won't bring an awful lot to a charity. Harry/William/The Queen all bring a great deal of press, prestige and huge donations to the charities that they support. A charity with bog standard you in charge doesn't get donations.

And you know for a fact they are all dim?

the fact that their work, charity and jobs, is made to sound like a great achievement is the problem. harry is in the army, but flies off to the west indies for jubilee duty, then gets a medal in america for his charity work. when is he going back to the army to do his military work? do other soldiers get all this leeway to flit about the place?

Pooh, wow what a charming thing to say - my charity work means jack all does it? Wow, why don't you tell you tell that to all the thousands of people out there working their arses off to raise money for charity and raising thousands in the process?

I am a monarchist - I'd much rather have someone in charge who has a sense of duty, than someone who wants to be in charge because of what they can get for themselves (MPs and the other power-hungry mob of parasites in Westminster).

The Royal Family don't cost that much per taxpayer, certainly a lot less than other things my taxes are spent on which I am a lot less amiable towards.

How has she served her country exactly? By supporting charities by cutt g ribbons in exchange for a life of unparalleled luxury and privilege? She has managed to raise the most useless children in the northern hemisphere (and possible southern too). I think she executes her role well, but I feel no pride, loyalty or whatever I am supposed to feel. They are remote, pampered, out of touch. I long for an elected head of state.

one thing I can say for the royal family is that their PR machine is bloody good cos there are an awful lot of people on here who seem to believe every bloody word of it!

William and Harry are being paid the same wage as any other man/woman in their rank and trade.

The queen was a truck driver during WWII so she has in effect served her country.

creighton quite a few people were appeasers in the 30s. They'd only just come through one war which killed off an entire generation of men. No one wanted to go through that again.

And I don't expect any other helicopter pilots get to borrow one of the helicopters to fly off to their stag do - do you?

what have their wages got to do with anything? they live on the income from the £100m their mother and greatgrandmother left them.

Right let me clarify something

surprisingly that wasn't AIMED at you, as I was writing my post prior to reading yours about you doing charity work. It it is the YOU generally (including myself), unless you are particularly famous then YOU (not you SCP) aren't going to be as big an asset to a charity as THEM. (Or David Beckham for example)

It is more a case of crossed posts than aiming to insult you directly so accept my apologies if you think that I was aiming that personally at you. I too do much for charity when I can but me being a Patron of Save the Children or Children in Need or another charity means nothing whereas one of the more direct Royals does.

The awful, awful Queen is a bloodsports enthusiast. Anyone remember her overseas tiger hunts, as well as all the slaughter of British wildlife she's been involved in over the years.
