Needalifeagain · 20/05/2012 22:10

How can someone pay this much? Am stunned. 8000 being used over next few weeks so not one of a kind, participants pay £200 ish for torch worth £475.

well if they get it or anywhere near it fair play. there is always one! Wink

bogeyface · 20/05/2012 22:16

I think it may be scam bids because there has been some bad feeling about this, so people bid stupid amounts that clearly wont be paid and the person has to pull the listing or pay AMAZING final value fees! They get them back after filing a non paying bidder report, but still!

PissesGlitter · 20/05/2012 22:22
Shock
bogeyface · 20/05/2012 22:24

Oh, and they made a very rookie mistake by saying exactly when they are running so everyone will know it is them that is selling their torch! I cant help thinking that there will be more boo's than cheers at 1638 tomorrow :o

McHappyPants2012 · 20/05/2012 22:25

one person has put it up for the charity mencap, which has got to be a good thing

bogeyface · 20/05/2012 22:29

Thats fine McHappy, I dont think anyone would have a problem with that. But selling for personal profit when you havent even RUN yet leaves a nasty taste in people mouths. Especially those people who would have loved to have run but didnt get chosen (I know one that was nominated to run in our town and was passed over for someone from the city 30 miles away :( we only have 2 local runners in our segment)

AmberLeaf · 20/05/2012 22:32

Its not for personal profit, its al going to the communtiy garden/charity thing they are doing it in aid of.

bogeyface · 20/05/2012 22:33

I cant see that info anywhere on the auction Amber.

numbum · 20/05/2012 22:34

Really. Who is actually going to pay that for a torch?! Ridiculous and I'm pretty shocked that the people running these legs of the torch are supposed to be 'upstanding members of the community'

AmberLeaf · 20/05/2012 22:36

Look at my link in my 2nd post, it explains that there.

BatmanLovesRobin · 20/05/2012 22:36

There's one that's going for £4,100 - but if you read carefully, it's a picture of the torch, not one of the torches at all. I hope the people bidding on that particular listing have deliberately inflated it to warn the less observant...

numbum · 20/05/2012 22:36

And the one selling the link on Amberleaf shared is the same seller who sold one for £150,000+. Why do they have more than one exactly?

AmberLeaf · 20/05/2012 22:37

No it isnt!

the 2nd listing is purely to explain the details of the actual listing.

It says all that on there.

More about The People's Plot
The People's Plot is a community gardening project that started in West London and grew. We are a group of gardeners, volunteering to help improve our neighbourhoods by creating green spaces for growing together: kitchen gardens, community orchards, radical plantings and grass-roots activities. We want everyone to know that by growing our own and nurturing growth we become more self-sufficient and healthier members of a community. We want to help any person who is hoping to improve community green space with ideas, resources, training and contacts. This land belongs to us - let's lend a hand to the diggers! Our current projects include a community orchard and a Local Food Festival in Burnham on Sea, check their website out at www.burnhamonseafoodfestival.org.

numbum · 20/05/2012 22:38

Just re-read it amberleaf and realised my mistake. I still think it's ridiculous selling it for that amount of money. Where do people get that sort of money from? Envy

AmberLeaf · 20/05/2012 22:40

I doubt it will be a private individual buying it TBH

It will possibly be bought by some sort of attraction/restaurant something like that.

DaenerysTargaryen · 20/05/2012 22:44

Why does anyone care if they sell their torch though? If it's theirs then surely they can if they want to? Confused

Needalifeagain · 20/05/2012 22:57

Thanks Amberleaf,
Glad proceeds are going to a charity of some type. Would be an absurd amount of money for a private individual to pocket.

Some people being scammed by not reading ad properly like this one

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/London-2012-Olympic-Torch-/190681453008?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DDLSL%252BSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BUA%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D330735828718%252B330735828718%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8559075222489709891

where the seller does say it is a photo of torch, but you'd miss it quite easily unless you read the q & a at bottom

While the seller is being honest in the description, the title makes it sound like it is an actual torch.

Though if you are careless enough to bid £100,000 + without reading an ad properly and making sure you have confirmation of what item is exactly then probably someone with more money then sense!

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 00:28

He says that he wont take payment ashe isnt actually selling anything.

AmberLeaf · 21/05/2012 00:29

oops no he doesnt, I thought it was a different one sorry!

HeathRobinson · 21/05/2012 01:00

And to go with it the flame!

Poulay · 21/05/2012 01:09

They are only worth about £2k. All the bids above that price will be spoilers

YardBroom · 21/05/2012 01:25

loving the flame one. classic!
