How can someone pay this much? Am stunned. 8000 being used over next few weeks so not one of a kind, participants pay £200 ish for torch worth £475.

Oh no! Ebay is brilliant!

You can buy new stuff from ebay 'shops' too, which are just small sellers who have all kinds of things, its not all used goods.

Ebay has everything and is generally the cheapest place to find things.

I love ebay Smile

hmmm I think I will continue to give ebay a wide berth. The whole thing is a total mystery to me...

I actually dont know?!

I get lots of things from ebay and ive got a 100% feedback rating so I wouldnt dare try to find out, wouldnt want to ruin that.

entropygirl, you are meant to buy the item.

Adam Partridge on breakfast show this morning said it's almost certain to be a hoax bid. Said there are too many of them for any one torch to have that value.

Report
entropygirl · 21/05/2012 09:44

so erm if you bid on something and win...you don't actually have to buy the item?
Report
YardBroom · 21/05/2012 01:25

loving the flame one. classic!

Report
Poulay · 21/05/2012 01:09

They are only worth about £2k. All the bids above that price will be spoilers

HeathRobinson · 21/05/2012 01:00

And to go with it the flame!

Some people being scammed by not reading ad properly like this one

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/London-2012-Olympic-Torch-/190681453008?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DDLSL%252BSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BUA%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D330735828718%252B330735828718%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8559075222489709891

where the seller does say it is a photo of torch, but you'd miss it quite easily unless you read the q & a at bottom

While the seller is being honest in the description, the title makes it sound like it is an actual torch.

Though if you are careless enough to bid £100,000 + without reading an ad properly and making sure you have confirmation of what item is exactly then probably someone with more money then sense!

Thanks Amberleaf,
Glad proceeds are going to a charity of some type. Would be an absurd amount of money for a private individual to pocket.

Why does anyone care if they sell their torch though? If it's theirs then surely they can if they want to? Confused

Report
AmberLeaf · 20/05/2012 22:40

I doubt it will be a private individual buying it TBH

It will possibly be bought by some sort of attraction/restaurant something like that.

numbum · 20/05/2012 22:38

Just re-read it amberleaf and realised my mistake. I still think it's ridiculous selling it for that amount of money. Where do people get that sort of money from? Envy

More about The People's Plot
The People's Plot is a community gardening project that started in West London and grew. We are a group of gardeners, volunteering to help improve our neighbourhoods by creating green spaces for growing together: kitchen gardens, community orchards, radical plantings and grass-roots activities. We want everyone to know that by growing our own and nurturing growth we become more self-sufficient and healthier members of a community. We want to help any person who is hoping to improve community green space with ideas, resources, training and contacts. This land belongs to us - let's lend a hand to the diggers! Our current projects include a community orchard and a Local Food Festival in Burnham on Sea, check their website out at www.burnhamonseafoodfestival.org.

And the one selling the link on Amberleaf shared is the same seller who sold one for £150,000+. Why do they have more than one exactly?

Report
BatmanLovesRobin · 20/05/2012 22:36

There's one that's going for £4,100 - but if you read carefully, it's a picture of the torch, not one of the torches at all. I hope the people bidding on that particular listing have deliberately inflated it to warn the less observant...

Report
AmberLeaf · 20/05/2012 22:36

Look at my link in my 2nd post, it explains that there.
