Pissy sticks on Facebook

QueenOfF1amingEverything · 18/05/2012 21:32

Why?

Ok, you are excited. You want to share with all 642 people on your Facebook the news that you are about 5 minutes pregnant. That's great and I am happy for you.

But.

The photo of the pregnancy test, still visibly wet, is not actually necessary or interesting. Its a stick. Made of cardboard and plastic. Covered in your cold piss.

OP posts:
Herrena · 18/05/2012 21:36

Awww. It's a bit gross when you put it that way, but they're excited. Bless.

Personally I do think it's a bit emotionally risky to tell the world at that stage, but hey ho.

CrispyCod · 18/05/2012 21:38

Hilarious post OP. Grin. YANBU

lurcherlover · 18/05/2012 21:39

After having a mmc I think telling people the second you find out is foolish indeed. I regret telling people once I got to 12 weeks (assumed I was safe then) before I had had the dating scan which showed baby had died at 9 weeks. Not a mistake I will make again - I won't be going public until after a scan in future.

Darkling · 18/05/2012 21:42

YANBU, there is such a thing as oversharing. It never even occurred to me to take a picture of the positive piss stick never mind put it on facebook.

lurcherlover · 18/05/2012 21:44

Sorry, I realise this was a lighthearted thread and I've just put a complete downer on it there. But I will be going back to work soon where everyone knew I was pg and having to face their looks of sympathy Sad so it's a subject close to my heart at the moment.

Meglet · 18/05/2012 21:45

eeeeew!!! But bless her, she's excited. Hopefully there won't be any problems.

I still have my sticks in the drawer. After 6 and 4 yrs they haven't faded

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 18/05/2012 21:46

warm piss, actually

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 18/05/2012 21:46

lurcher :( xxx

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2012 21:48

Seriously? People do this???? Shock

IcantSleep · 18/05/2012 21:52

lurcherlover that's very sad, hope you are ok.

OP is this her first baby? I didn't put a picture of my stick on Facebook, but I have still got mine Blush after 8 years of trying, it was something I never thought I'd see.

Havingaminutespeace · 18/05/2012 21:52

Ewwww!! Why the actual Jeff would someone do that?! Yes, I get they're all excited about their new baby and what not. To put a picture of their peed on stick onto the web for everyone to see though? Have they not HEARD of the phrase too much information?! Jeez.

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2012 21:53

lurcherlover, hopefully people will offer you support and understanding, rather than be annoyed with you for being off for a while with a virus. Sorry to hear you are going through this Sad.

I think it also must be difficult for people when nobody knows what they are going through.

Hindsight and all that.

Cabrinha · 18/05/2012 22:25

Lurcherlover, I'm sorry.
I had a similar experience, except that actually I was glad people knew. We're all different. So I don't see a problem with people announcing it immediately.
As for it being a stick that's been pissed on... It's only piss - actually, it's only a photo of piss - get over it people!! The positive test is just an easy visual to post, no harm in it.

I posted a picture of mine, but most certainly not with any piss in view. Wasn't even a clear picture. Just clear enough to see the line.

Thankfully, my friends were excited for me as soon as they saw it as I had been trying for ages.

My best friend also sent me a picture of hers after trying for 11 months. I also jumped for joy. But again, there was no signs of piss.

YABU about pictures of positive tests but YANBU about the ones with visible piss on them

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 19/05/2012 02:05

YABU.

Glitterkitten24 · 19/05/2012 08:45

Ha I took a picture of mine, but certainly didn't post it on fb!

I don't know why you'd want to announce the world this soon anyway, before my scan I only told the people who I would have wanted to know even if the pregnancy had all gone badly. I.e parents, siblings etc.

BartletForAmerica · 19/05/2012 10:29

Gosh, I wouldn't put a picture of my positive test or even a scan, even before we had problems. It's just so hurtful to people who are having problems to have the photos thrown into their faces. I did tell people close to us in person, which was very helpful when we discovered that our baby had severe problems at the 12 week scan.

Buckingfiatch · 19/05/2012 10:40

Putting up a picture does not make you automatically selfish or thoughtless, or a nasty bitch just in case someone else may be having problems. I know no one was, considering I never add anyone to FB unless it is a close family member or close friend. Each one was either pregnant, or on some form of contraception due to already having children, or not wanting any. Or not even in a relationship.

Not everybody has problems. Both me and my best friend did getting pregnant, but yet we managed to be overjoyed for each other once we saw each others picture.

Kayano · 19/05/2012 11:35

Someone told me after I announced my news before 12 weeks that I would now undoubtedly have a miscarriage.

I nearly punched her on the department floor

Does my nut in when people get Judgy over when people decide to disclose their news.

It's THEIR news.

If anything had happened I would have told them anyway and may have needed their support.

WhosTakingTheHorseToFrance · 19/05/2012 11:45

I still have all of my tests. I dare someone to uncap them Grin

SarryB · 19/05/2012 11:53

I've kept my positive one, it's in the baby box with Dylan's scans and congratulation cards, and cord clamp etc. Don't think I'd put my pissy stick on FB though. I didn't even tell most people untill after my 20 week scan.

pigletpower · 19/05/2012 11:56

Kept all three of mine, oldest one being almost 14 yrs! Humdingerloo!!

Buckingfiatch · 19/05/2012 11:57

Well said Kayano

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 19/05/2012 12:13

What Kayano said.
