At what age does breastfeeding become weird?

My MIL made a comment today about a mother who breastfed her child until she was 5 years old - as in, 'can you believe it???? that's just not right!'

Which got me wondering, where do most people draw the line in terms of how old is too "weird"?

kcal the energy unit is what appears on EVERY FOOD PACKET EVER. I was not wrong to use it.

PickledFanjoCat · 17/05/2012 15:04

Im enjoying a nice Wispa bar here, it has 210 kcals.

entropygirl · 17/05/2012 16:34

are you shitting me? only 0.2 kCalories? what the hell? Is that a normal sized one?

PickledFanjoCat · 17/05/2012 16:41

Im confused now, this isnt my area. I work mainly in pensions. Why cant anyone start an argument about pensions? Why is is always breastfeeding [SULKYFACE]

entropygirl · 17/05/2012 16:42

ohhh pensions....so erm I don't think public sector workers deserve pensions...discuss.

entropygirl · 17/05/2012 16:43

(you got the kcal thing right by the way....I was just astounded that a wispa has less than half the calories of a snickers)

PickledFanjoCat · 17/05/2012 16:45

Its got lots of little bloody holes in it thats why!

Ooo public sector pensions, now theres a hot potato!

entropygirl · 17/05/2012 16:50

ooohh yes...the holes....nothing like a large surface area in a chocolate bar.

I am afraid I understand absolutely sweet FA about pensions....I have one but feck knows if it will be worth anything when I need it...

I am a member of USS for what it's worth.

entropygirl · 17/05/2012 16:51

I don't even know if I am public sector for that matter....am a university lecturer....did I just slate my own pension by mistake? Blush

PickledFanjoCat · 17/05/2012 16:57

I had a quick look. If you are in the final salary section you are doing ok!

entropygirl · 17/05/2012 17:42

the final salary section? what does this mean??

PickledFanjoCat · 17/05/2012 17:53

Ah don't worry its a good scheme!

I think when t becomes uncomfortable for you/embarrassing, that's the time to stop. My child was 3 and a half, aka 42 months

I'm not going to get the references I asked for, am I?

Despite her loud noises signifying not very much at all, whatme is not going to find the 'hard data' she was so sure existed on the 'cause' of men wanting to leave a relationship; she's not going to find anything that 'debunks' Dettwyler's observations of feeding in Mali; she's not going to able to engage sensibly with my point that children's dental remains can only show when meat/grains gained predominance in a diet, and not when breastfeeding actually ceased for good....

Age when breastfeeding ceases is a range across different societies, pre-history and since. There is no evidence that there is a universal age, and plenty that breastfeeding continued/continues alongside other foods for several years, in many cultures, ethnic groups, diverse places.

Have you tried:

Just read the whole thread with two cream cakes and a cup of tea.

Still waiting for the evidence regarding men leaving natural term breastfeeders...

bringmesunshine2009 · 21/05/2012 21:34

Haven't read the full thread but is totally acceptable choice to BF until your DC are 42 years old. After that, it's an Oedipal tendency.
