To be annoyed at all the chat threads in aibu?

GColdtimer · 12/05/2012 02:50

Top 3 discussions in "most active" are in aibu yet are clearly chat topics. Perhaps I am being unnecessarily grumpy. Or perhaps I should go and join the pedants. Does it annoy anyone else? Or just me.

OP posts:
AgnesBligg · 12/05/2012 02:58

One of my pet hates is: I didn't want you to go unanswered.

However, I didn't want you to go unanswered.

Go be a grumpy pedant. Worse places to be!

I don't care where people put their stuff, others do. Smile

AgentZigzag · 12/05/2012 02:59

Fuming about it has been keeping you awake hasn't it? Grin

The whole of MNs posting history is just people chatting.

What's unreasonable about a chat with some random on the web?

CadleCrap · 12/05/2012 03:09

YANBU It amuses me that they are dressed up as AIBU

AIBU to ask whether you have a cat or dog?

or
AIBU to ask what the weather is like?

slowestwildebeast · 12/05/2012 03:10

isn't this another chat thread? YABU :)

AgentZigzag · 12/05/2012 03:16

Hehe, OP can't argue with that slowest Grin

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 12/05/2012 03:35

YABU it doesn't really matter

WishingRLwouldFuckOff · 12/05/2012 04:32

You haven't encountered Trills then?

This is her pet hate.

Unless you are Trills in disguise...

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 12/05/2012 04:45

If you are really bothered you can report the thread and mnhq will move it of they agree Wink

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 12/05/2012 04:45

Ps I hate 'I've posted here cause more teaffic'

OutInAllWeathers · 12/05/2012 07:20

I find it hard to care about what is posted where, people chat or support each other or talk crazy shit on whatever threads they like. Does it actually matter?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/05/2012 07:24

YANBU, drives me mad when people post 'AIBU to ask what colour of pants you have on?' etc

CallMeAl · 12/05/2012 09:03

I fecking hate "posted here because more traffic"....yeah, because wankers like you put all manner of shit here clogging up the place.

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 12/05/2012 09:13

I agree, and was fuming about it myself just before I read your post. If you want to chat, go to chat. If you want to be unreasonable, come here. If you want to chat unreasonably, you're a twonk.

HecateTrivia · 12/05/2012 09:23

But it is a chicken and egg, really, Call. There IS more traffic here, so people do post here because they know that if they post in one of the tiny topics - it'll likely not be seen.

And what's the point of not being replied to on a chat forum? Or wanting a range of opinions and getting one reply?

So people post where people are. So more people are there because that's where people are posting. so more people post there...

Eventually, this whole board will be AIBU Grin

The problem is there are too many topics. Too many sub topics. I've tried finding the specific topic that related to what I wanted to talk about.

By the time I'd analysed all the options and chosen the correct place to start my thread, I'd forgotten what it was I wanted to post about Wink

I've said it before, but imagine MN is a party in a hotel. You arrive at the party and you want to meet people and have a great time. You wander through the hotel, opening random doors. many of the rooms are empty, some have a couple of people in, a few have a dozen or so and then there's one. In the main hall. And there's 200 people in there, dancing and drinking and having a wild time - do you go oh, well, they're drinking vodka and I really can only drink gin, so I'm going to go find the room where they're drinking gin, even though there's only one person there.

No. Screw that. You party with the vodka drinkers, clutching your bottle of gin! Grin

What we're talking about is not as important as talking itself.

If MN seriously pruned the topics so that there weren't umpty million of the buggers, it would be better. At the rate we're going, we'll have a topic to discuss jam and another to discuss jam with bits in.

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 12/05/2012 09:26

Eventually, this whole board will be AIBU

I thinks it's already there Grin, they should just add AIBU to tge beginning of every thread and be done about it.

CallMeAl · 12/05/2012 09:26

Agree. But IMO chat is a bit of a catch all, and most of the clutter in aibu is pure chatter, not sensible questions that would be lost is little topics. I don't mind them as much, its the inane "what colour are your knickers" nonsense by morons who think they're above putting things in the right place that really grate my cheese.

HecateTrivia · 12/05/2012 09:30

If you report each and every AIBU thread that is actually chat, then MNHQ will move them and then there will be lots of people posting in chat and perhaps that will rebalance things. People will stop going straight to AIBU because they'll be used to chatting in chat. iyswim. You could change the world mumsnet Grin

WishingRLwouldFuckOff · 12/05/2012 10:23

Don't be so silly. hecate. Of course MN can change the world. it does already WinkGrin

GColdtimer · 12/05/2012 10:25

Slowest, no I was asking AIBU to be bothered Grin. I was feeling a bit grumpy last night as I was up with a teething toddler but I do feel this whole site is turning into one big aibu, as others have said.

OP posts:
sausagesandmarmelade · 12/05/2012 10:39

YABU

In the grand scheme of things....why does this matter?

ChaoticismyLife · 12/05/2012 10:42

I agree with Hecate Grin

Wrt sub topics, I'm still finding out about parts of mn that I never knew existed and I've been here since Nov 2009.

Trills · 12/05/2012 11:07

YANBU to be annoyed.

If answering "YABU" or "YANBU" does not give the OP any useful information then they have posted in the wrong place.

MNHQ do move them if you report them (more or less depending on who is on duty)

Trills · 12/05/2012 11:08

There's more traffic in AIBU

Because people like you only post in AIBU

Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem

("you" refers to the person who writes "I've posted here for more traffic")

usualsuspect · 12/05/2012 11:10

MN might as well just get rid of all the other topics

eurochick · 12/05/2012 11:12

YABU. Who cares? Why do people feel the need to be self-appointed forum police?
