Disgusting twitter trend, what more can I do?

whatmorecanIdo · 01/05/2012 23:27

There is a 'trend' tonight, a photo is going around of a young women having sex with a dog. The problem is a 15 year old local girl has been named as the person in the photo and her name is trending, it's horrific

I have been to the police and they said they can't do anything until the family report it. I have emailed twitter. I have emailed the girls school to look out for her

This little girl is being demonised all over twitter, her full name and town. If she knows what the hell will she be going through

What more can I do

I know it's not AIBU, just need help on how to handle this, I just feel so sorry for this girl

Sounds horrendous. I don't know a thing about twitter can you explain to me a bit more please, what do you mean by trend?

WorraLiberty · 01/05/2012 23:30

I don't think you can do any more but I have to say, these things go around Facebook all the time...each time with a new name for the person in the pic. I doubt Twitter is any different.

However, the fact the photo probably isn't the girl being named, doesn't make it any less traumatic/humiliating for her Sad

whatmorecanIdo · 01/05/2012 23:34

It's the fact she is a young teen and full name and town and school is being mentioned, it's horrific

OP posts:
Empusa · 01/05/2012 23:37

I'd be surprised if it is the girl being named, probably someone with a grudge against her started the rumour. Absolutely horrific trend. Don't think there's anything you can do, as far as I know twitter wont delete all posts mentioning her name, nor will it remove her name from the trending list.

minimisschief · 01/05/2012 23:38

poor dog tbh. why do you fee sorry for a girl who shagged a dog

whatmorecanIdo · 01/05/2012 23:40

I don't doubt for one minute that it isn't her in the pic. The pic looks like a much older woman and looks like a very dated picture

Someone has started a horrid rumour and it has gone viral, that poor poor girl

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 01/05/2012 23:40

I doubt the girl being named shagged the dog mini

bibbitybobbitybunny · 01/05/2012 23:41

Empusa! The op realises its not the girl! That is not the point.

Call me old fashioned but I am really shocked.

Could you be on Twitter and innocently come across this horrible image?

I am so naieve Sad.

FannyFifer · 01/05/2012 23:42

It came up on my twitter feed. Sad

whatmorecanIdo · 01/05/2012 23:42

FGS, the girl named is 14/15 of course it isn't her, some kid will be going through hell tonight

They have named a real child, all over twitter, name, school, town. It's beyond awful

OP posts:
bibbitybobbitybunny · 01/05/2012 23:43

They should all be prosecuted then! Scum.

GrahamTribe · 01/05/2012 23:46

You've probably done the best you can by alerting the school. That's where the poor kid will almost certainly get the most abuse and where she can be properly cared (by "officials") for when they receive your heads up in the morning.

minimisschief · 01/05/2012 23:46

how do we know the girl named is not the girl doing it

Empusa · 01/05/2012 23:46

bibbity I x-posted, and yeah, you could come across it by accident. :(

whatmorecanIdo · 01/05/2012 23:49

Mini - we know because I live in the town and I'm the parent of teenagers

This bullying at it's extreme, how will she cope with this

OP posts:
tinymouse · 01/05/2012 23:49

shame twitter and fb isnt just closed down.

FannyFifer · 01/05/2012 23:49

We don't, but FFS it's a 14/15 year old girl who could be pretty much destroyed by this.

Sookeh · 01/05/2012 23:51

Whether it's her or not (though it's probably not) she's still only a 15 year old girl.

I really fucking hate twitter and facebook sometimes. I was bullied pretty badly but it's just at a whole new level these days.

totallypearshaped · 01/05/2012 23:51

That's a legal issue. She should get a slander and libel lawyer pronto. There are ways of finding out who started it, and who is re-tweeting (publishing the libel). They can be arrested, as they are breaking the law. Twitter can be contacted as it is a hate inducing tweet, and it can be pulled.

He school needs to be informed as it is also a bullying issue.

ShellyBoobs · 01/05/2012 23:52

shame twitter and fb isnt just closed down.

I could not agree more!

LadySybilDeChocolate · 01/05/2012 23:54

support.twitter.com/groups/33-report-a-violation# you can report it.

TerraNotSoFirma · 01/05/2012 23:55

Do you have any way of contacting the parents? I know it's late but maybe if they can report it soon it could all get deleted by morning?

whatmorecanIdo · 01/05/2012 23:56

I have reported it, this is the reply I just received

I reported under their own child pornography email

I am so worried where this will go for this child

Totally, I believe that libel is a very hard thing to take to court as there's no legal aid for it. The abuse is a Section 5 Public Order Act offence though and hopefully the girl and her parents will involve the police.
